Shadowverse: Evolve Cosmic Mythos set review

Cosmic Mythos is a great expansion to Shadowverse: evolve, it’s got a little of everything and the general card quality is very good, if not quite on the same level of some of the truly best sets.

Visuals:

The card art for Cosmic Mythos lives up to the best standards of some of the other series, there’s some very pretty card art in this series and it’s spread very evenly, so no matter what craft you like to collect or make decks out of, you’ll be getting some nice looking cards for your collection. Abysscraft gets some great cards in the inclusion of the medusa sisters and Howling Demon, Swordcraft is well served with a variety of round table themed knights and Mars, Silent Flame General. Forestcraft has Cassiopeia and elf song… altogether it’s a very nice looking set, with a strong design style where nothing feels out of place.

- Well, almost nothing. Because before I forget actually there is one little addition that stands out like a sore thumb, for some reason this series Shadowverse decided to get a Code Geass tie in, so Lalouch is here. I’m sure some people are thrilled but I was more baffled than anything when I pulled him out of a pack. Anyway, considering this is the design low-point of the set, it’s clear that it’s not really got any problems.

The Cards:

This set brings a lot of useful cards, and while there are certainly a few that won’t really make the grade for competitive decks, there’s some cards that I'm sure a lot of players won’t be able to wait to get their hands on. Star Reader Stella is an excellent addition to basically any portalcraft deck, providing a lot of deck control for a very reasonable play point cost, with some good counterparts in starseer’s telescope and concentration. Aether of the white wing is a very interesting Havencraft card that has some cool strategies that you can pull with it, as it allows you to summon another creature of less than your maximum play points directly to the field, It is a 7 cost itself so it requires some support, but allows you to fill your field out with powerful monsters if used correctly for a fancy coup d’etat.

There’s also a lot of cards that are less powerful but still worth including in a deck or as filler if you have a smaller collection, including a few really fun neutral cards like Mr Full Moon and Goblin princess, and it’s undeniable that Mystic ring and Night’s way are very useful in decks that want to increase their consistency, both allowing you to draw cards for a low cost and with night’s way add to your EX area which can be useful for facilitating a few strategies.

Card Pack Value:

The value per pack in this set is overall very good, with a good amount of cards of each rarity in most boosters. Much like a lot of the other shadowverse series it’s very consistent in this regard, and the overall usefulness of the cards is good making this series an easy recommendation on value alone. Also if you buy in bulk, the booster boxes contain a box topper that can be a leader card, which is always a bonus, not to mention that the booster boxes make great storage if you want to keep them.

In Conclusion:

Overall I highly recommend this set, it’s good value, has a great design style that is mostly very consistent, and contains a lot of cards that will be a boon to your collection if you manage to pull them. It’s not quite the best set shadowverse has released, but it’s certainly up there.
