Last weekend, 24th – 26th October), the second annual York Board Games Convention set a massive record for it’s attendance, with more than four times the amount of visitors compared to last year! A total of 447 unique visitors came along for the event with a total of 972 people taking part over the full course of the weekend. The convention was held in St Peter’s School York, and was truly an event to remember!
Visitors came from all across the UK, and even as far as Norway for the event! The convention featured a whole board games library, role-playing games lead by experienced players, and and even special guests from BBC’s The Traitors’ Wilfred Webster and Ivan Brett! “The Forge” was a new area open to role-playing games specifically, and special features included a convention-wide treasure hunt, and play testing zone, and a delicious selection of food and drink!
Games for Everyone
One of the highlights of the convention was the show’s “Bring and Buy” sale, where hundreds of pre-owned games were exchanged, as well as exhibitors showing their handcrafted board game accessories and unique gifts for board gamers to enjoy! The hall was full of family tables so people could play to their hearts content, including accessibility improvements such as a full wheelchair-accessible venue and gaming tables, as well as a quiet room. The show really was put on for any and all board game lovers!
According to the organisers, plans are already underway for the convention next year, so we can expect more games, and even more exciting ways to play and enjoy them!
