Wingspan is getting 150 new fan-made birds!

Maybe you didn’t think it was possible, but Wingspan is getting even more birds!

Coming this October, Stonemaier Games is dropping six new promo packs for Wingspan, each filled with 25 fan-designed bird cards. That’s 150 new birds in total, ready to flap their way into your carefully crafted nature reserves. And no, this isn’t a full-blown expansion – you won’t need to learn a ton of new mechanics or powers.

According to Stonemaier’s blog post (dated Sept 22), the packs are regional – each one themed around birds from a different part of the world. The only rule? No repeats. Every bird is new to Wingspan, even if it hails from a continent the game already covers.

Wingspan designer Elizabeth Hargrave, fan creation coordinator Travis Willse, and Stonemaier president Jamey Stegmaier teamed up to curate the packs. Travis, who’s apparently got an encyclopedic knowledge of all things fan-bird, helped assemble sets that make sense from both a gameplay and an avian perspective. There’s a solid spread of habitats, nest types, and food costs – no card is just shoved in because someone really likes toucans (though who could blame them?).

“All fan designers were compensated for their time and creativity,” Stegmaier confirmed in his post. And nope, there’s no AI-generated art here – just open-source images and fresh illustrations from Wingspan’s OG artists, Natalia Rojas and Ana María Martínez.

The packs hit Stonemaier’s webstore on October 15, so start clearing space in your Wingspan box (or boxes?) now.
