As if they weren't going to complete the trilogy! Well, Office Dog have finally announced the third game in the series following on from two of the longest named games to ever exist, we are now presented with the Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King Trick Taking game (try saying that 10 times fast).
The final chapter is finally coming, and we don't have too long to wait with a release date set for February 2027. Based on the novels, this final installment will see you helping Frodo and Sam continue their journey into Mordor in a co-operative trick taking game. If you've not played the first two games in the series, they are honestly the best place to start, because as much as everyone would love to eat dessert first, it's the other courses that help you appreciate what you've got at the end. The first two games are excellent, and have got me to convince friends who don't even like trick taking games to play them. If you've played another trick taking game at some point in your life, or a co-operative one like the Crew, you will be familiar with what needs to be achieved. At the beginning the games feel breezy and fun, with you progressing to the next chapter if all players have met their personal goals. However the complexity ramps up and I can't wait to see what new challenges the final installment throws our way!
This will be a day one purchase for me, I love the art, theme and gameplay of the first two, and can't wait to see what new mechanics and surprises will be inside the box! If you've not played the first two games, they are a real treat, and if you start now, you should be able to get through them before the final installment releases early next year!
