The fast-paced party game Anomia is back with a fresh new look, and it’s available now! The Op Games has officially released an updated edition of the award-winning card game, bringing its frantic mix of quick thinking, unexpected matches, and plenty of laughter to a new generation of players.
A party game classic returns!
Originally released in 2009, Anomia has sold more than 2 million copies worldwide. Now, following The Op Games’ partnership announcement in February, the game is getting a makeover with bright, colourful packaging and refreshed card designs. The new edition keeps the gameplay that made Anomia a party favourite, while giving it a more modern appearance. So, whether you’re a long-time fan or have never played before, there’s a fresh reason to get stuck in!
Think fast, answer faster!
Anomia is all about putting your brain under pressure. Players take turns flipping cards, each featuring a symbol and a category. When the symbols on two players’ cards match, those players face off! The challenge? Quickly name an example from your opponent’s category before they can do the same to you. Categories can include everything from food and pop songs to dog breeds and websites. Sounds easy enough, right? Not when you’re trying to think of an answer while someone else is racing to beat you to it! The game also features Wild Cards, which can create unexpected matches and throw a spanner into your carefully laid plans. Losing a card doesn’t necessarily mean the action is over either. It can trigger another face-off, leading to a chain of rapid-fire challenges around the table.
With simple rules and plenty of replayability, Anomia is designed to get everyone involved. Just don’t be surprised if your brain suddenly forgets what a dog is when you’re under pressure!
Award-winning gameplay
Anomia has picked up several awards since its original release, including a MENSA Select Winner award in 2010, an ASTRA Best Toys for Kids award in 2010, and UK Games Expo’s Best Party Game award in 2014. The game supports 3–6 players aged 10 and up, making it a versatile choice for family gatherings, game nights, and parties. Its quick-to-learn rules mean players can jump straight into the action without spending ages reading through a rulebook. It’s also the sort of game that works brilliantly with different groups. Whether you’re introducing friends to tabletop gaming or looking for something to get the family competing, Anomia offers plenty of opportunities for hilarious answers and unexpected victories.
The Op welcomes a new generation
The Op Games CEO Dane Chapin shared his excitement about bringing the refreshed edition to players, describing Anomia as a game that delivers shared laughter and a different experience every time. Game designer Andrew Innes also praised the new design, saying it feels fresh and vibrant while retaining the high-intensity hilarity that Anomia is known for. That balance is what makes this refresh interesting. The Op Games isn’t reinventing the game’s core gameplay, but giving a much-loved party classic a new presentation.
