Grab your magnifying glass and dust off those candlesticks – because Clue (or Cluedo, depending on which side of the Atlantic you’re on) is stepping off the tabletop and into the spotlight. Netflix has officially announced it’s turning the beloved murder mystery board game into a reality competition series, and honestly? We’re intrigued… but also quietly praying for a Tim Curry cameo.
The streaming giant revealed plans for the Clue show earlier this month, following hot on the heels of its Monopoly game show announcement. It looks like Hasbro is going all-in on bringing its classic board games to life – and Clue might just be the perfect fit for a bit of dramatic, reality-TV chaos.
So, what’s the setup? Contestants will enter a sprawling, Clue-style mansion and face a series of physical and mental challenges to uncover – well – clues. Their mission: solve a string of interconnected mysteries by identifying the murderer, weapon, and location. Get it right, and you stay in the game (and boost the prize pot). Get it wrong, and you could find yourself “eliminated” – hopefully just figuratively.
It’s part mystery, part game show, and all the campy drama we secretly want.
While details are still under wraps, Deadline has confirmed that the show will feature the familiar faces from the board game: Colonel Mustard, Miss Scarlett, Professor Plum, and Mrs. White are all making appearances. Whether they’ll be hosts, characters, or mischievous obstacles is still a mystery, but one thing’s for sure – they’ve got big shoes (and big shoulder pads) to fill. After all, it’s impossible to top the legendary 1985 Clue film and Tim Curry’s scene-stealing turn as Wadsworth the butler.
The series is being produced by Hasbro Entertainment, B17 Entertainment, and Sony’s The Intellectual Property Corporation (IPC) – the same team behind several of Netflix’s biggest unscripted hits. Given Netflix’s growing appetite for competition shows like The Traitors, Squid Game: The Challenge, and Love Is Blind, it makes perfect sense that they’d want to mix a bit of classic whodunnit flavour into their line-up.
We’re imagining something between The Traitors and Escape Room, with a dash of Knives Out flair – and probably a few absurd challenges involving feather dusters, lead pipes, and trapdoors. (Please, Netflix, give us an actual ballroom dance-off for the final clue.)
No official release date has been announced yet, but production is already underway, so we might not have to wait long before we’re shouting “It was Miss Scarlett, in the conservatory, with the rope!” at our screens.
Whether you grew up arguing over who had the wrench or you’ve only recently discovered the murder mystery classic, this adaptation sounds like a fun twist on one of board gaming’s most enduring icons.
If done right, Netflix’s Clue could be a killer addition to the streaming line-up – in every sense. Just remember: trust no one, keep your cards close, and never underestimate Mrs. White.
