Zatu Exclusive Disney Lorcana Card Reveal

The release of the new Disney Lorcana set Fabled is almost upon us and I am super happy we can kick-off the preview of the cards featured in this set by revealing one of the reprints that Players can still use after the Set Rotation: “Moana, of Motunui”.

Moana is definitely a fan favourite Character and it is great we had many cards featuring her and the other Characters from the same movie in Disney Lorcana. However, “Moana, of Motunui” is actually one of the very first two cards of this Character we had when the Lorcana released two years ago, and I think the artwork of Nicholas Kole completely captured the fierce spirit of our beloved way-finder. This card pairs nicely conceptually with “Maui, Hero to all” that has been a staple in any Ruby deck since the very beginning and there may be a chance we can still see them together on our tables after Set Rotation but we will know more once all card reveals completed.

From a gameplay point of view, Moana is a Rare Inkable Amber card from the first set of Disney Lorcana (The First Chapter). Moana has a cost of 5, a Strength of 1 and a willpower of 6 and can quests for 3 Lore, that is pretty good compared to our cards of similar cost. The value of this card, however, lies on its ability (“We can fix it”) that ready all other Player princess cards once Moana quests. This ability was not very useful when the First Chapter released in August 2023 as there were only 17 cards classified as Princesses across three Ink colours. Of course, more princesses were released within each new set thus a lot of Players were tempted to make “Disney Princesses” Decks in Lorcana. These decks become much more effective with the release of the Item “Queen’s Sensor Core” in Set 5 that allows the Player to get the first card of their deck if it is a Queen or a Princess and to gain 1 lore every turn if a Princess is in Play.

Once Fabled releases and the Set Rotation kicks in, there will still be at least 39 different “Princess” cards not including those released/reprinted in Fabled. “Queen’s Sensor Core” will also not be rotated out as it was released in Set 5 thus we can expect Princess decks to be still interesting to play. Moana can offer this deck a quick lore gain and the possibility to ready all other cards allowing very interesting combos. For example, if you have Moana and “Goofy, Groundbreaking Chef” you can quest with a Princess Character, ready it after Moana quests in order to challenge an opponent Character, and ready it again by healing it with Goofy at the end of your turn. You can use Moana’s ability to trigger the “on-exert” ability of other Princess Characters like “Kida, Creative Thinker” twice per turn or to challenge twice per turn with an overpowered “Namaari, Single-Minded Rival”. There are plenty of options for sure to benefit from Moana’s ability thus I am quite happy to still have a chance to play with her after set rotation.

Overall, I am quite happy to see Moana of Motunui among the cards reprinted in Fabled. It may be a bit of a niche card in today metagame but seeing it reprinted ignites my hopes Ravensburger will release more Princess and Princess related cards in the upcoming sets making this Moana a very valuable asset for these Decks. I am also a big fan of the movie and I lost count of the times “How far I’ll go” has been sung at home by my wife and my son therefore I am very grateful I have been able to reveal this card today. Make sure you keep an eye on Ravensburger Disney Lorcana Website for more news and to see which other cards will be revealed in the upcoming days!
