The New Year is up for a great start with the release of Winterspell, the latest set of Disney Lorcana. As the name suggest, the first set of 2026 will bring back the joy and fun of Winter season to all Illumineers and it will gift us with tons of amazing new cards, powerful mechanics and some of the most beautiful Enchanted we ever seen in this game. Winterspell is actually one of the most thematic set we had in Disney Lorcana so far and it fully lives up to the set motto “Flurries of Fun”. However, the 11th set of Disney Lorcana is also going to have a massive impact on the metagame considering how many interesting cards it features and how close we are to a new Set rotation.
I had the pleasure to be gifted a Booster Box of Winterspell by the Ravensburger team ahead of its release and I cannot wait to share my thoughts on the product and the set. Let's take a look together, one pack at a time....

Winterspell: Set details
Winterspell is the 11th Set of Disney Lorcana coming right after Whispers in the Well and before The Wilds Unknown. The set releases on the 13th of February at your local game shops (and on the 20th everywhere else) and as usual Players will be able to find pre-release events via Ravensburger PlayHub (Home | Ravensburger Play Hub)
The core set will feature a total of 204 card as usual plus 18 Enchanted, 18 Epic cards and 2 Iconic cards. The Iconic cards for this set are “Moana, Curious Explorer” and “Pocahontas, Peacekeeper” and it should be noted that this set is the first one to feature an Epic card with an alternate Artwork with respect to its counterpart in the core set. Not surprisingly, this special treatment has been reserved to “Stitch, Carefree Snowboarder” that features the same artwork you can enjoy on Winterspell Booster Boxes and Products.
Winterspell Booster Box will include 24 Booster packs of 12 cards each including 6 Common, 3 Uncommon, 2 higher Rarity cards and a Foil cards of any Rarity including Epic, Enchanted and Iconic. In addition to the 12 playable cards, each Booster Pack also includes an additional card that can be either a Lore card or a Puzzle art card. Art cards of the set. This time, Ravensburger provided us with another great nine-piece puzzle art card and with some Lore cards. The Artwork for the puzzle art is taken directly from the Emerald card “Snowball Fight” and it is the first one to have a landscape orientation. The Lore card, on the other hand, looks like a messages sent through a communication device and provides good insights into the story of the Set and how Lorcana ended up in deep deep deep snow....

What to expect from Winterspell and Cards you should look for
In terms of gameplay, Winterspell expands on the mechanics that were introduced in Whispers in the Well, in particular the Boost mechanic that becomes extremely interesting in the cards featured in this set. In particular, most of the Whispers released in this set have abilities that increase the more cards are beneath them. Among them, “Genie, Magical Researcher” will surely be a chase card for the Amethyst players considering he can quest for as much additional Lore as the cards beneath him. The Emerald “Goofy, Ghost of Jacob Marley”, on the other hand, can be a good addition to decks that aim to punish the opponent by forcing them to discard as many cards as those under Goofy when the Character is banished. Another interesting new Whispers will likely be “Alice, Well-Read Whisper” that can send all cards under her to the Player's hand every time she quests. Cards with Boost and Card with the ability to put cards underneath other Whispers are likely to become more common in the meta game and to play a great role in new Decks and strategies.

Winterspell will also introduce 6 new cards with the ability Underdog, one for each Ink colour. These cards have a cost of two and they can be played at the reduced cost of one during Player's First turn if (and only if) they did not go first in the current round. These cards have been clearly designed to help Players going second to reduce the dis-advantage of not going First. The addition of these cards is particularly important as in Disney Lorcana the Players decide who is going first by rolling a dice thus there may a lot of cases where a Player will not go first very often if they are unlucky with the rolls (like I usually am...). In addition to a reduced cost, most of the Underdog cards have additional ability like “White Rabbit, Late Again” that is also Evasive or “Judy Hopps, Snowball Patrol” that also has Resist+1.
One more key addition to Winterspell is a new way to add cards to your Inkwell. The Legendary “Moana, Curious Explorer” allows the Players to use Inkable cards from their Discard Pile instead of those from their hand for the “Put a card into your Inkwell” action. This ability that changes one of the core rule of the game is designed to strongly impact the game as Sapphire Players will be able to balance the reduce card draw this Ink colour usually has. Most important, Moana's ability will also affect cards that allow to put additional cards in the Inkwell like “Sail to the Azurite Sea”.
Considering the above, it is very likely that Moana will be one of the chase cards for the set.

Among the other Legendaries, some of the most interesting cards will likely include “Tinker Bell, Snowflake Collector”, a Character that gains Evasive and can quest for 4 Lore each turn when the Players has at least 4 and 7 cards in hand respectively and “Anna, Soothing Sister”, that can gain as much additional Lore when questing as the value of a Character in the Discard pile. Anna can also be Shifted for zero if a card left the Discard pile during the same turn you play her. Making her quite interesting in any Amethyst Deck.
The Emerald “Donald Duck, Fred Honeywell” will be also pretty sought after to make the best out of your Whispers Character due to his ability to add a card underneath a Character when the Player triggers their Boost ability. Moreover, Donald Duck will allow a Player to draw as many cards as those underneath any Character that is banished. “Scrooge McDuck, Reformed Ebenezer” also supports your Whispers Characters as it allows to add a card underneath each of the Player's Characters when play granting them Ward at the same time for one turn.
Last but not least, Winterspell will also bring us “Game Preserve” a beautiful Emerald Location that costs 3 and generates 2 Lore every turn. Best part? If you have an Evasive Character at it, this Location gains Evasive itself and can only be challenged by Evasive Characters. That's a first for a Location and quite an interesting idea...
