Pokémon fans will soon be able to collect their favourite trading card designs in a rather different format, as Santa Cruz Skateboards prepares to launch a new range of officially licensed Pokémon skateboard decks. Launching on October 17, 2026, the collection celebrates the Pokémon Trading Card Game’s 30th anniversary with 30 different standard designs, alongside three rarer chase versions. However, there's a catch: the skateboards are being sold in blind bags, meaning buyers won't know which design they're getting until they open one!
33 designs to collect
The collection takes inspiration from the Pokémon Trading Card Game's extensive history, featuring artwork from famous cards spanning multiple generations. Designs include classic favourites such as Base Set Blastoise, Charizard and Venusaur, alongside more modern collector favourites like Moonbreon. Rather than simply stretching individual Pokémon illustrations across the skateboard decks, the designs reproduce the cards themselves, complete with textured backgrounds that complement the artwork. The result is a collection that brings the look of Pokémon cards to a much larger canvas. There are 30 standard designs to discover, but collectors will also have three additional chase skateboards to hunt down. These rarer versions feature artwork incorporating multiple Pokémon cards, making them visually distinct from the regular releases. Unfortunately for collectors who enjoy tracking their pulls, the exact odds of finding each design haven't been revealed. With the products sold randomly, anyone hoping to complete the collection could find themselves opening multiple boards before finding their favourites.
A familiar idea for Pokémon collectors
The blind-bag approach will be familiar to anyone who collects Pokémon cards. Booster packs have long encouraged fans to chase rare cards, and this skateboard collection brings a similar element of surprise to a much larger product. Of course, there's a difference between opening a booster pack and discovering which skateboard deck you've purchased. Collectors could end up with a design they love, but there's also the possibility of pulling one they'd rather have avoided. The collection also offers plenty of variety in its artwork. While many of the designs lean into the bold, energetic aesthetic associated with skateboarding, others feature Pokémon with a softer appearance, including Gardevoir and Sylveon. With 33 designs in total, the range offers Pokémon fans and skateboard collectors a new way to celebrate three decades of the trading card game. Whether buyers are hoping to track down a particular Pokémon or hunt for one of the three chase designs, the randomized release adds another collecting challenge to the anniversary celebrations. The Santa Cruz Pokémon skateboard collection launches on October 17, 2026. The manufacturer has yet to reveal the exact pull rates for the chase designs.
