This wasn't on my bingo card of two player games to be released this year! Stonemaier Games is releasing a new game for 1-2 players set in the world of Scythe and Expeditions called Duel for Meloch, and fortunately they've given us a lot of information to go with it!
This is a new standalone game set in the same world as Scythe for strictly 1-2 players, it will play in about 45 minutes and it looks like it will be a pretty heavy game in terms of complexity but with a small footprint, box and set up time!
Duel for Meloch combines elements from both the previous games into one new package, in which one player will use Scythe rules and components, and the game comes with a new faction and player mat. The other player uses Expeditions rules and components, and the game will come with a new mech, character and companion. This sounds really cool, and although knowledge of one of those two games will come in helpful, you don't need to have or own either to enjoy this game.
The board is tight and double-sided, where both players will race to be the first to four stars, with a catch up mechanic for the player who doesn't achieve a star. Also, in a very unique way, if you own either Scythe or Expeditions, you can use many of the components from those games to add variability to Duel for Meloch.
This has been kept under wraps very well by Stonemaier Games, as it's only just been announced and the release date is just a few weeks away! I'm a big fan of asymmetric games, and have owned Scythe for a long time now, so look forward to trying this one out when it releases!
