How does Codenames Party work?
Based on the popular tabletop game Codenames, the Netflix version challenges players to connect words through carefully chosen clues. The original game, designed by Vlaada Chvátil, has become a familiar sight at game nights thanks to its blend of wordplay, deduction, and teamwork. The classic team mode returns, with two teams competing to identify their target words. Each team has a rotating Spymaster who provides clues to help teammates work out which words to select from the board. The challenge is finding the right balance between giving useful hints and avoiding clues that could lead players towards the wrong words. A single clue can connect several answers, but an overly broad suggestion might cause teammates to make an unfortunate guess! For players who would rather jump straight into the action, Codenames Party also includes a mode called Case Studies. This uses pre-made sets of words and clues, allowing everyone to focus on solving the puzzles rather than taking turns as Spymaster.
A new party mode changes the rules
