Harbor Of Blight now on Kickstarter!

Some things aren’t meant to go together. Cheese and fish, for example: this is a recipe for a trip to the toilet. Gin and tonic (two wrongs definitely don’t make a right). People’s fists and my face - come on guys, leave the pretty alone. What do go together well, however, are tabletop board games and RPG elements. If only I was about to discuss a game that blends both worlds…

Harbor of Blight: Obsidian (excuse the American spellings, they make me twitch) is a solo or 2-player cooperative board game / RPG hybrid that will take you on an easy to set up and play campaign. You will have opportunities to explore exotic locations, battle with elemental beasts, interact with a colourful cast of NPCs, upgrade your skills and gear, solve riddles, and dive into side quest hunts, some of which are hidden. A unique, science-fantasy setting with a splash of steampunk (don’t mind me a bit of the ole steampunk, not at all) awaits you on this adventure in the exotic world of Blight. A vast array of art and lore will be available, if you want it. If you'd rather get right into the game with a quick-start character and just skim through what's needed, that's ok too.

You can become a Warrior, where the training is intense and the life is even harder (harder than the real world? Blimey). Once the basic warrior skills are mastered, they specialize as either a Hunter, which incorporates traps and stalking to take down their foes, or a Wild Striker, which uses large flashy attacks in an attempt to do as much damage to as many things as quickly as possible (strange how often my cat pops up in these game descriptions).

If you don’t fancy that, you could become an Augmentor Beaster, enhancing yourself with parts from various beasts, or maybe become an Empathic Beasters, and attempt to learn how to incorporate beast Skills into your own arsenal. This last class sounds very videogamey, which I like a lot. Want to have a closer look for yourself? Don’t blame you. Head over to this crowdfunding page for more info.

About the author:

Steve is currently a freelance board game blogger (with articles appearing in Tabletop Gaming Magazine, Casual Gaming Insider and Senet), but often dreams of life as a pirate, or as a ghost herder in the Lake District, or as an evil estate agent who sells haunted houses for his own dark pleasure. Instead of figuring out how to do these jobs in real life like a normal lunatic, he tries to write about them instead, and releases the resultant books upon the unsuspecting world via famous digital bookstores. More books are bound to follow. Find this peculiar entity here.
