After spending years mostly out of the spotlight, Conan is making a return to crowdfunding - and it’s bringing both swords and sorcery with it.
Monolith Games has confirmed that a new Kickstarter campaign is on the way in Q3 2026, reviving not only the Conan board game but also the tabletop RPG line. For longtime fans of Robert E. Howard’s fantasy world, it’s shaping up to be a pretty sizeable comeback.
License Return
Monolith originally regained the Conan license back in 2022 after Modiphius Entertainment ended its own Conan tabletop lines.
Now the publisher is officially moving forward with fresh editions of both games, alongside brand-new content for each system.
The original Conan board game already has a strong Kickstarter history behind it. Its first crowdfunding campaign back in 2015 pulled in around $3.3 million, building a large fanbase that’s remained active even while parts of the range became harder to find.
This new campaign looks set to tap back into that audience while also giving newer players a chance to jump in.
New Adventures
According to Monolith, the upcoming Kickstarter won’t simply focus on reprints.
Both the board game and RPG will receive new adventures and settings inspired by classic Conan locations and themes. Early previews mention pirate-filled coastlines, sea raiders, hidden cults, and the dangerous streets of Zamora - all very much in line with the series’ darker fantasy style.
The campaign is also being positioned so players can back whichever side interests them most. Fans can choose the board game, the RPG, or both together depending on how deep they want to go into the setting.
That flexibility should help broaden the appeal a bit, especially since tabletop RPG players and board gamers don’t always overlap completely.
Fan Voting
One of the bigger draws for returning players is the planned reprint program.
Monolith says older Conan content that’s been unavailable for years will finally return through the campaign, with fans helping decide exactly what gets reprinted through community voting.
That part of the announcement will likely grab the attention of collectors, particularly since some older expansions and books have become increasingly difficult to track down over time.
Rather than quietly slipping old content back into print, the publisher seems keen to make the community part of the process this time around.
Sword And Sorcery
The Conan universe has always been a natural fit for tabletop gaming. Between brutal combat, dangerous kingdoms, ancient magic, and larger-than-life adventures, there’s plenty of material for both tactical board game scenarios and open-ended RPG storytelling.
The board game itself is known for its asymmetrical gameplay, with one player controlling enemies and threats while others take on the role of heroes trying to survive increasingly difficult encounters.
Meanwhile, the RPG leans further into exploration, intrigue, and classic pulp fantasy adventure.
Bringing both formats together under one campaign feels like a fairly smart way to reconnect the wider Conan tabletop community in one place.
Kickstarter Timing
At the moment, Monolith has only confirmed a Q3 2026 launch window for the Kickstarter campaign, with more details expected closer to release.
For fans who missed earlier Conan releases - or those still holding onto older expansions from years ago - this looks like it could end up being one of the bigger tabletop crowdfunding campaigns to watch later this year.
