Our friendly little board game café Common Meeple is based in Swansea, Wales. We (husband and wife duo) Karina and Mike, moved to Swansea after Mike left the Army. We opened in September 2022 and have since only grown from strength to strength. Fast approaching our 4th birthday in September.
Our board game collection has over 400 games, and includes everything from quick party games and family favourites to strategy games, cooperative adventures, engine builders, deduction games and modern tabletop classics. Whether you want to discover your next favourite game or revisit an old classic, there's something for every age, group size and experience level. But what makes our café special is the amazing team who work here. They will answer any questions and talk games all day long (if you want), whether you need someone to explain the rules or settle a debate, they are there to help.
Our community has grown since it started, so now we regularly host clubs from Magic the Gathering to Warhammer, to Chess, Mahjong and Go, to Meeple mates (for people looking to play with randomers), as well as non-board game clubs like Silent Book Club and Craft Club. We strive to be a place where everyone is welcome and encouraged to be themselves!
Of course, great gaming deserves great food. Our menu is completely vegetarian, with almost every dish available as a vegan option. We pride ourselves on our coffee, ethically sourced drinks and local craft beers alongside a fully licensed and stocked bar. Whether you're popping in for coffee and cake or spending the whole afternoon playing games over lunch, we've got you covered.
We're like to think we are more than just a café or a games library—we're a place where friendships begin, families reconnect and communities grow. Our friendly team is always happy to recommend games, and visitors regularly tell us they love our welcoming atmosphere, extensive game collection, delicious food and relaxed environment.
If you're planning a visit, we're based in the heart of Swansea and welcome families, couples, groups and solo gamers alike. Booking is recommended, particularly at weekends and during school holidays, and can be made easily through our website.
To play our games collection is £3 per person for 2 hours. If you are bringing your own games, or want to just come for food and drink there is no cover charge. We can’t wait to welcome you to our community.
