When Twist founder Hayley moved back to her hometown of Plymouth in 2016, she noticed something was missing. Board game cafes were beginning to appear across the UK, but Plymouth didn’t have one. So, rather than waiting for someone else to open one, Hayley decided to create the place she wanted to visit herself.
And that’s how Twist Board Game Cafe Bar was born!
Located in the heart of Plymouth, Twist is a relaxed, independent cafe bar where friends, families, couples and fellow gamers can get together, enjoy great food and drinks and choose from a library of more than 600 board games.
Something for every kind of gamer
From modern favourites such as Wingspan, Azul, Codenames and Ticket to Ride to classics including Cluedo, Scrabble and Monopoly, there’s a huge variety to choose from.
Whether you're a gaming pro or stepping into a board game cafe for the first time, the Twist team are always happy to recommend something. They can even help you get started if you're unfamiliar with the rules.
And with the freedom to play as many different games as you like during your session, there’s plenty of scope for the inevitable “shall we just play one more?”
Games, food and good times
Twist isn't just about the games. The cafe bar serves pizzas, burgers, loaded fries, sharing plates and desserts, alongside cocktails, mocktails, milkshakes, coffee and a selection of beers.
Upstairs, The Parlour offers a more intimate experience for couples and smaller groups, with cocktails and a hand-picked selection of games in a cosy setting.
Twist also hosts quiz nights, social gaming events and Learn to Play sessions, giving regulars plenty of reasons to come back and making it easy to meet other people who enjoy gaming.
More than a games cafe
At its heart, Twist is about bringing people together around a table.
You might visit for a date night, a family afternoon, a catch-up with friends, a celebration or simply because you fancy trying something different. You don't need to be a board game expert - just turn up, choose a game or let the Twist team help you find something you'll enjoy. And judging by the number of people who return again and again, it seems to be working.
