3 hidden secrets in Stardew Valley you probably never knew existed

Outside of farming there’s countless hidden features to uncover

For a farming simulator, Stardew Valley is beloved for its unique aesthetic and relaxing gameplay, but under the facade lies a dark, disturbing world that secretly exists within Pelican Town’s shadow.

On the surface, time on the farm is defined by watering plants, harvesting crops, collecting resources, and befriending townsfolk, but upon exploration, it soon becomes obvious that this utopia is not what it seems.

The deeper one digs into the game’s mysterious lore, the player is gifted with nothing but more unanswered questions. From weird statues, dwarven artefacts, giant plushies, to cryptic notes left behind by someone unknown, Stardew Valley surprises even the most experienced of gamers.

Here’s three of the craziest features in the game you can utilise as soon as today.

The 3 Box Statues

Strewn around the map are three seemingly pointless metal boxes, each containing its own unique atrocity. As if these abominations weren’t weird enough, their respective locations are strangely found inside the Stardrop Saloon’s storage area, Vincent’s bedroom ‘toy box’, and the fenced forested area behind Clint’s Blacksmith.

Investigating them at random yields nothing, but placing specific items into the required chests rewards players with three hideous unnamed statues known only as HMTGF, Pinky Lemon, and Foroguemon. To obtain them, one must feed Duck Mayo to the Saloon’s box, a Strange Bun to Vincent’s box, and finally a Super Cucumber to the Blacksmith’s box.

Ambiguous information regarding the metal chests exists in a single ‘incomprehensible’ Lost Book in the Museum that appears to fail at providing anything valuable. Decoding the book’s gibberish reveals the required items and locations.

Ultimately, the statues remain as nothing more than decorative items that’ll undoubtedly be left forgotten in a storage chest. They’re completely unsellable, unable to interact with NPCs or players, and serve no practical purpose whatsoever. Why they require food items or exist at all in the game is still unknown.

The Mayor’s Gold

Mayor Lewis may appear to be an innocent and kind old man, but he’s actually a corrupt official embezzling the town’s funds for his own pathetic gains.

Upon arriving in Pelican Town, the local infrastructure is in a state of advanced decay, with the Community Center in ruins, the bus being beyond repair, and the entire economy relying on a single farmer to prevent societal collapse.

By following instructions on Secret Note #19, players are led behind the Mayor’s manor, where this gaudy treasure is concealed. The Solid Gold Lewis statue is a furniture item and can be placed anywhere, but by displaying it in town it gets automatically confiscated by Lewis the next day. He then continues to replace the statue with a rotting plant, send 750g in hush money, and move it to an indoor location.

To prevent him from stealing it back, it’s recommended to place the statue inside your house or on the farm. However, if Lewis did manage to get it, players can go inside his or Marnie’s bedrooms and once again steal it by just adding it to the inventory. 2 hearts of friendship are required to gain access to their bedrooms if Gold Lewis is found in either.

It’s a hilarious and dark depiction of local political corruption, proving that whilst the town suffers, Mayor Lewis is quietly hoarding wealth behind closed doors.

The Witch Who Deletes Children

If you ever decide that choosing a domestic life and having children was the worst mistake of your life, then look no further. By offering a Prismatic Shard to the witch's ‘Dark Shrine of Selfishness’, it’s possible to erase any child that brings nothing but regret.

Nestled deep in a dingy swamp above the Railroad, lies the Witch’s Hut. This is where kids, adopted or not, get turned into doves in exchange for rainbow crystals, essentially eradicating their presence from your family tree, the farm, and Pelican Town as they fly away in a new form.

However, your actions aren’t without supernatural consequences. After sacrificing any offspring, players will be met with creepy telephone calls with ghostly voices whispering "You have forsaken us..." On fall 26, turn on the TV and choose the new "???" channel, because on screen it broadcasts a bizarre ancient doll.

This cursed doll immediately declares "You've brought this upon yourself... Now I'm free... Hee hee hee!" and physically manifests onto the farmhouse floor. After, it disappears into the Witch’s Hut where it will float around and attack players upon entering, respawning each time you re-enter even if killed.

Revealing the Darkness

Whilst Pelican Town offers an idyllic escape on the surface, these hidden details prove there is always something stranger lurking just beneath the soil. From uncovering local corruption, locating alien statues, to dealing with forbidden occult shrines, Stardew Valley’s darker layers are what make it so memorable.

These disturbing secrets remind us that it isn't just a static rural simulation, but a lively, unique world with its own lore, dangers, and untold stories buried beneath the pastures. The next time you go to tend your crops or wander beyond the farm at night, try not to get eaten or become exhausted!
