Fans of Scorpion Masque’s brilliant two player auto battler Tag Team are eating extremely well at the moment, as they have announced another expansion to their roster.
Following the announcement of Tag Team: Arthur’s Legacy, which is due for release on the 21st of October this year, (which I discussed in detail already!), Scorpion Masque have again piqued my curiosity with another expansion, this one shooting straight for the nostalgic heart of all 90s arcade enthusiasts.
Moving away from Arthurian legend and into the arcade, SNK Arcade Legends will bring some iconic fighting game characters to the Tag Team chaos.
Due to go to retail next year with a pre order bonus to boot, this expansion looks like the kind of stupid fun I could tell was possible when I first got my hands on Tag Team, knowing it would be ripe for expansions and ridiculous combinations.
Round 1: FIGHT!
Bringing the arcade to your board game table, Tag Team: SNK Arcade Legends looks like it will provide some really fun new characters to the game.
And in a brilliant bit of marketing and teasing, Scorpion Masque will be announcing the new fighters one by one each month, to keep you constantly checking for news on the game.
Thus far they have announced The Legendary Wolf Terry Bogard from the Fatal Fury Special series, with five more to be announced from August to December with only a silhouette as a clue to who might be added.
Also, if you pre-order the game, you will get an additional fighter in Iori Yagami from The King of Fighters series, who will exclusively be a pre-order bonus and not in the game that goes to retail, to really hook you into an early purchase of this wonderful expansion.
Other fighters will be from iconic franchises like Fatal Fury and Samurai Shodown, so if you’re feeling a bit nostalgic for the 90s you’re in luck.
Seeing as Tag Team itself was inspired by arcade Beat-em-Ups, this does feel like a perfect fit, and will certainly create some awesome combinations that will knock your opponent’s down for the count in your quest for a flawless victory.
Choose your Fighter
With a 2027 release date and a pre-order bonus, if you love Tag Team like me this might need to be one you add to your basket very soon.
It’s worth noting the pre-order bonus can only be ordered through Scorpion Masque themselves so do keep an eye on that, but generally SNK Arcade Legends has all the hallmarks of an excellent expansion.
Personally I am probably more invested in the Arthurian Legends expansion, especially as it seems SNK Arcade Legends won’t be adding fighters from the kind of arcade fighting games I am more familiar with like Mortal Kombat and Tekken, but its still certainly going to play with the formula of Tag Team really nicely. It’s always felt like a game I could just get every expansion for, to get as much out of the game as possible, so even if I am not as familiar with these franchises, the completionist in me might just be tempted to test my might and my wallet.
