Magic: The Gathering has teased five new pieces of artwork for its upcoming Star Trek crossover, with fans speculating that the designs will feature a new cycle of full-art Basic Land cards. Wizards of the Coast shared the artwork across its social media accounts, showcasing groups of Star Trek characters beaming down into a range of striking environments, including lush forests and imposing mountains. Although the company has yet to confirm exactly which cards will feature the illustrations, many fans believe they represent the five Basic Land types: Forest, Island, Mountain, Plains and Swamp. The Star Trek collaboration is scheduled to launch on November 13, with prerelease events beginning on November 6. It is also set to be Magic: The Gathering's final major set of 2026.

Iconic Star Trek characters join the game

The upcoming expansion will bring characters and settings from across the Star Trek franchise into the popular trading card game. Its roster spans multiple generations of the science-fiction series, including The Original Series, The Next Generation and Voyager. Among the characters featured in the crossover are Captain James T. Kirk, Mr. Spock and the Borg Queen. The set will also include four Commander Decks themed around Spock, Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Worf and the Borg Queen. Wizards of the Coast has also teased special autographed cards featuring signatures from prominent Star Trek actors, including William Shatner and Sir Patrick Stewart. These are expected to be among the set's most sought-after collectibles.

Star Trek products face release delays

The crossover has already encountered several changes to its planned product lineup ahead of launch. In late September, Wizards of the Coast confirmed that the Star Trek Beginner Boxes had been cancelled. The company subsequently announced further delays affecting several products in different regions. Commander Decks have been pushed back in North America, while Collector Boosters, Draft Night boxes and other products have faced delays across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Despite these setbacks, the main expansion remains scheduled for November, giving fans plenty to anticipate as more cards and artwork are revealed.

A busy year for Magic: The Gathering

The Star Trek crossover will close out a packed year for Magic: The Gathering, which has released numerous major sets throughout 2026. Alongside its own in-universe releases, the game has expanded its range of crossovers with collaborations featuring Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Marvel Super Heroes and The Hobbit. With Star Trek bringing another iconic entertainment franchise into the game, the latest reveal offers a further glimpse at the variety of artwork and collectible cards planned for the upcoming set. Fans will have to wait for official confirmation to discover whether the five new illustrations will indeed become full-art Basic Lands.
