Diablo is getting a new board game adaptation!

The world of Sanctuary is making its way to the tabletop, with Diablo: Unbound, a new cooperative dungeon-crawling board game launching its crowdfunding campaign in Q1 2027. Developed by Glass Cannon Unplugged, the studio behind tabletop adaptations of Don't Starve, Dying Light and Apex Legends, the upcoming game will let players take on the forces of darkness alone or alongside friends. Diablo: Unbound supports between one and four players, challenging them to battle monsters, collect powerful loot and strengthen their characters before facing fearsome dungeon bosses. Players will be able to choose from familiar Diablo classes, including the Rogue and Barbarian, as they venture through the iconic locations of Sanctuary.

Build your hero and hunt for loot

Although full gameplay details remain under wraps, the first trailer has offered a glimpse at some of the game's systems, including detailed miniatures, player boards and what appears to be a hex-based battlefield. Players will seemingly have plenty of opportunities to customise their characters, with equipment slots for chest armour, helmets, weapons, rings, necklaces and gems. This suggests that finding and equipping better gear will be an important part of building a powerful hero. Abilities also appear to be tied to a deck of cards, potentially giving players a range of skills and actions to use during combat.

Some skill cards appear to feature two sides, with a basic ability on one side and an upgraded version on the other. This could give character progression a satisfying tabletop twist, allowing players to improve their abilities as they grow stronger throughout their adventures. However, further details about how these systems work have yet to be confirmed. The combination of character customisation, loot hunting and challenging boss encounters should make Diablo: Unbound one to watch for fans of dungeon crawlers and cooperative boss-battling games.

Diablo: Unbound launches its campaign in 2027

Glass Cannon Unplugged has confirmed that the game's Gamefound campaign is planned for Q1 2027. Players who follow the project on Gamefound will also be able to claim a free, Gamefound-exclusive Treasure Goblin expansion, according to the announcement. Before the crowdfunding campaign begins, attendees at SPIEL Essen 2026 will have the opportunity to try an early build of the game at the Glass Cannon Unplugged booth in Hall 1. With its familiar character classes, equipment systems and hordes of monsters, Diablo: Unbound looks set to bring some of the video game's defining features to the tabletop. More information about its gameplay, campaign rewards and release plans is expected as development continues.
