Cover of the game 'Giant Pass the Pigs' featuring inflatable pig toys against a blue background. The caption reads 'We're the ultimate party animals!'

If you've ever played Pass The Pigs and thought “I like this but it's just a bit small”, well look no further than Giant Pass The Pigs! Don't be deceived by the name though, you'll probably be thinking it's just larger pig figures for rolling on the table maybe triple the size or something, but oh nooo, it's much more than that, now you're getting inflatable pigs the size of a small child! Hope you're ready to blow up some pigs!

Porkers

Box and contents of the "Giant Pass the Pigs" game, featuring inflatable pigs. Instructions and green mesh bag are included, conveying fun and playfulness.

For those who never played the original Pass The Pigs, it's a fairly simple game. You have two dice sized pigs to roll and the aim is to land them in various positions, where the more difficult they are the more points you can earn. For instance the Sider is when both pigs are lying on their side and gets you just 1 point, but the Razorback, a pig lying on its back with its trotters in the air, nets you 5 points for one or 20 points if you get both pigs doing it. But there's always the danger while chasing the elusive double Leaning Jowler you might end up instead Makin’ Bacon, having the pigs touching, which sets your score back to zero!

Pigsty

As the Pigs have been upgraded they need a better home, which is provided in the large box they come in. But everyone who's taken a trip to the seaside with a new inflatable knows it never goes back in the box after inflating, no matter how much you try to neatly fold it and press the air out. Well they've thought about this because you'll also get a trendy green carry bag inside the box, so just deflate the pigs and then you can easily store them in there! It can carry everything else too, the scorepad and pencil, the repair kit and even the box itself! Very handy, and it makes the game extremely portable which is very useful for an inflatable game.

Trotters

Two inflatable pig toys are seated in a car's backseat, one in a child car seat on the left and the other on the right. The scene is playful and humorous

Once you're familiar with the rules of the original then you know all you need to know to play the Giant version. Points scoring, push you luck mechanics and pig chucking are all exactly the same as before, well almost. The Implements of Oinking being supersized inflatable pigs means they can't just be shaken and rolled. You gotta grab them by the ears and chuck them up in the air to see where they land. Then start scoring like before. Now, with these pigs we did find it sometimes difficult to tell exactly what position it was when it came to the Snouter or the Leaning Jowler, and perhaps being inflatable it may have a different preference to how it lands, I thought we had a couple more Jowlers than normal. But even if it did it didn't harm the fun gaming time we had.

Pigs On Holiday

Pass The Pigs is a very travel friendly game normally in its tiny case. When you go Giant it may take up more room but still travels just as well, stick them in the bag and away you go. As it only takes a couple of minutes to inflate it means you can play in the garden, in a park, on the beach, possibly in a spacious hotel room if you want to try. Being inflatable though you do need to be prepared for the weather if playing outside, you might find a strong gust of wind turns a Rumper into a Sider, or worse!

The pigs are quite robust too and can put up with rough play from younger family members, I can vouch from experience when we invited a toddler to play, he didn't quite understand the rules but was happily chucking the pigs on his turn but then diving onto them before we could work out his score, luckily they escaped without harm but I guess the repair kit is a backup just in case. And to be honest we probably could have just used the inflatable pigs as a distraction to keep the kids entertained making up their own game if the adults wanted to just sit around and talk for a bit.

So all in this is nothing new if you've played the original, but it makes for a fun family garden game or a portable pig holiday version for all weather. A fun cross between push your luck and dexterity games in a way. If you're looking for something indoors at the table this isn't what you're looking for, maybe you want to give the original base version a go. Otherwise, blow up them pigs, get chucking and avoid making any bacon!
