Tag Team Arthurs Legacy Coming 2026

Logo with bold "Tag Team" text on a blue shield. Below, "Arthur's Legacy" is written on a banner. The design conveys teamwork and adventure.

If like me you were a huge fan of Scorpion Masque’s two player arcade battler Tag Team last year, then you need to start making a bit of space on your board game shelf as the first expansion for it is coming this year.

Tag Team Arthurs Legacy will bring the world of King Arthur and Camelot to your tag team affairs, with six new characters and a whole host of new gameplay and abilities to liven up your two player battles.

While no specific date has been announced yet it is due to be released this year, and if you owned the original game you would have already been privy to this with the very intriguing teaser of it in the game box, but now more information is out there on the game.

It’s Two on Two

The original Tag Team was one of my standout new games of last year. You can read my glowing review of it on Zatu, but essentially you play against your opponent with each of you choosing two fighters each to go head to head in a tag team battle.

With twelve fighters available in the original game box, it allowed for 15-20 minute matches which always felt unique, with each character complimenting and bouncing off each other for really fun combos and different styles of playing the game.

You’re trying to knock out one of your opponents fighters while they do the same to you, and you’ll be slowly adding more cards to your deck for the fight to come. However, Tag Team’s very fun quirk is its an auto battler, meaning you can’t ever change the order of your cards once added, so it combines seamlessly elements of deckbuilding and memory games.

You want to put your best cards, and perhaps your best fighters, up against your opponents to deflect their biggest attacks or perhaps to deal the most damage you can, or even to achieve your fighters specific goals or character elements.

It was a really fun two player addition to my collection, with quick, fast paced games that sometimes could be over in as little as 5 to 10 minutes if someone doesn’t play their cards right, with super cool theming and brightly coloured artwork to make it really pop on your game table.

So some Arthurian legends joining the fray has me so pumped I am more than ready to pull a sword out of the stone.

Tag Team Warfare

Tag Team Arthurs Legacy sounds like a really interesting expansion to the main game. While like I said no confirmed release date has been announced, some details are out there about this new addition, all of which has got me very excited.

Firstly its adding six new fighters to the game, which will create a huge amount of new teams to try out fun combinations with, but also goes against what seems to be the general ethos in board game expansions of this ilk, where they sometimes only give you two or three new characters to add, with some really egregious examples of just one. (I am looking at you Dice Throne, Unmatched, Disney Villainous).

The six new fighters are Morgan, Merlin, The Dragon, Percival, The Green Knight, and somehow, Excalibur. Yes, the sword!

There are some cool details about what each character will do, like The Dragon gaining scales as it loses health akin to Bodvar’s rage ability, and Morgan getting to see which cards your opponent is adding to their deck.

For me though Excalibur sounds the most intriguing. It won’t play as an individual character as such, more as an accessory to your other fighter, giving it power and taking damage which can break the sword, but doesn’t ‘knock it out’ like it would your other fighter, which I assume means you wouldn’t lose for having it broken. I can picture using Mephisto from the original with Excalibur and going totally ham on my opponent!

All in all Tag Team Arthurs Legacy sounds like a must have addition to Tag Team, and an expansion I can’t wait for. I will be keeping my eyes firmly online for the announced date of release, as I seeing it being a perfect gift to add to my birthday or Christmas Wishlist!
