Racing onto the scene is the latest and fastest Lego blind boxes, in collaboration with one of the most intense racing tournaments in the world! The partnership between Formula 1 and Lego has been a steady growth over the years, with sets such as the Lego 2023 Mclaren F1 race car to the recent burst of minifigure scale race cars from a myriad of teams. Included in this new wave of sets is a brand new style of blind boxes that, unlike previous collectible sets, don’t use minifigures as the collectible. In place of this is a micro-scaled figure of the race cars available in the new Formula 1 wave of cars, allowing for you to get a miniature scale, minifigure scale and, in some cases, a massive Lego Technic scale model of the Formula 1 race cars.
Stepping off of the marks, Lego continues to have an impeccable component quality and accounts for human error with the inclusion of a couple additional important piecesin each box. The same quality you find in Lego’s biggest and expensive sets you willfind here as well in its smallest and cheapest. In addition, the cars are simple to build with relatively easy to follow guidance on the back of the leaflet that each of the Lego F1 Collectible Race Car sets come with to show off what is on offer. Speaking off, this truly is a unique blind box set from Lego; the set breaks from the traditional expectations of Lego collectible sets like the Minifigure Blind Boxes that have ranged from themes like Marvel, Disney and a varied collection of Lego’s own themes and ideas. In its place are these micro-scale figures of the F1 race car sets, featuring great print quality on the bricks and a unique helmet mold that is exclusive to the F1 sets.

The experience of opening and building this is similar to that of making your own Hot Wheels car, as you open it up from the box and find that it doesn’t come with a stand as seen with the minifigures. This lack of a traditionally integral part encourages more of a play feature for collectors and fans alike to enjoy the experience of using it as a toy, racing it around an imaginary course or doing tricks around other Lego sets. It is a great alternative to just being a display piece as many other blind boxes that Lego has released over the years and will hopefully be the beginning of even more micro-scale sets to follow suit so that there is a variety of Lego Minifigure blind boxes and Lego Micro-scale sets to attract an even greater audience to the brand. There is certainly a great range of these race cars available in this set as well, having the possibility of getting one out of twelve possible F1 race cars spanning the many teams that participate, such Mclaren, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Red Bull and many more…
The set does experience some moments of bottoming as it makes its final laps; one issue that I found with the actual builds is that there is a lack of build variation in the cars. This is understandable as many of the cars in real life are built the exact same ways and look very similar to one another, so it would make sense that the Lego sets released of them would share the same build style and use a similar frame. However, as an experience it becomes very repetitive as once you make one of the cars, you have made the other race cars as well. It would be interesting to see these sets feature some minor differences in design or build guidance to help differentiate the silhouettes of the race cars as all that separates them are the piece colours and prints.
Additionally, due to the random nature of the blind boxes, it can be tricky to find a specific mini that you want; if you are a fan or a particular team or are after the micro- scale figure of a particular set for your lego collection, then it becomes tricky to identify which one will have the one you are strictly after. I have heard of some ways of identifying the individual sets in the blind boxes, but outside of this it is solely based on luck that you find the set you are looking for.
As we come storming to the finishing line, the Lego F1: Collectible Race Cars are fresh and fun take on Lego’s blind box product line. The sets are creative and a great representation of the real life cars they are based on as well as the lego sets that have been designed in bigger scales that have been released alongside this set. Though some minor issues with the product, they are mostly common issues that are expected when collecting blind box toy lines and is still a great product to recommend buying and collecting for any and all who are excited for it.
