Family Ties Season 1 introduces us to the Keaton family and a hilarious example of the generation gap. Whilst idealistic parents Steven and Elyse belong to the flower power generation, this is Regan-era 1980's America and their children, Alex (three-time Emmy award-winner Michael J. Fox), Mallory (Justine Bateman), and Jennifer (Tina Yothers) are more interested in consumerism and making a quick buck, and have little time for the "peace and love" vibe which their parent try and instill in them. A twenty one year-old Michael J. Fox quickly becomes the focus of the show as his strong Republican Conservatism jars relentlessly with his parent's more liberal ideals and the comedy flows effortlessly. So successful was the show that it ran for seven seasons and launched the career of Michael J. Fox.
