Epic Encounters – Lair of the Red Dragon Preparation:

Out of the frying pan and into the fire, it is getting hot out there, best find that Ring of Fire resistance from behind the sofa and have Fire Shield ready to go, as that 50+ sunscreen is not going to cut it.

Lair of the Red Dragon, designed to fit with DND 5th Edition. This unit contains a full encounter booklet, one very large red and gold coloured miniature and illustrated battle map and 18 tokens of 16 minions & 2 lava pools. The unit is designed to be a flexible encounter and can be played as a standalone adventure, necessary element along the way, or a side quest in a campaign or the finale for the Shrine of the Kobold Queen. The Games Master (GM) will need to have to assess the players levels and pitch the difficulty but reading the full encounter booklet rather than scanned over will give the depth of the scenario and characters to make it a truly Epic Encounter.

Epic Encounters – Lair of the Red Dragon at play:

Lair of the Red Dragon, the game is designed as a battle encounter for any games master role playing game, primarily for a DND 5th Edition adventure, modification would be needed to any other role-playing system. The players play co-operatively unless you are a sneaky spy, to complete the scenario objective. The scenarios are outlined to stop the Red Dragon and kobold minions from attacking local villages to just stealing some gold. A band of plucky adventurers could save the day or make a quick buck, or they might of course just toast some marshmallows and while the villages burn. The GM manages the encounter, so if it is too challenging the scenario can be adjusted i.e. the scenario be it, the treasure, Red Dragon and the minion kobold have to be stolen or defeated respectively, some extra help is likely needed to prop up your teams’ weak points as the party will eventually end in a full-frontal assault after sneaking around for a bit, so maybe a healers and mages will be needed for the hot waters you will be in.

Booklets, Maps & Miniatures:

Lair of the Red Dragon, booklet contains, a detailed scenario and background of the Lair of the Red Dragon and the Red Dragon and minion abilities and behaviour in battle or play, as well as Red Dragon’s perspective on what it needs and what outcomes could be. The booklet provides guidance on difficulty, stats, and background from the Lair. The battle map is beautifully illustrated and on decent quality paper and is double sided with two different Lair layouts, but you will need to flatten it out. The Lair of the Red Dragon has one very large Red Dragon miniature needing minor assembly and is coloured red and gold. Eighteen tokens, sixteen Kobold tokens comprising of eight in two separate designs, and two lava pool tokens comprising of one design but are very nicely detailed but is more generous & detailed compared to the Local Encounter sets.

‘We go from one extreme to the other, freezing cold to sweltering hot swamp, I hope we get to see our dragon again she did head to the Red Dragons Lair.’ asked young Paladin, wiping the sweat from his brow.

‘We need a Red Dragon scale for the wizard trials but maybe Snotglob could help with that if she is still friendly with the Red Dragon,’ said the white Wizard.

SPLAT! A huge deluge of swamp slurry drenched the hapless pair.

‘SNOTGLOB is that you.’ Said the drenched and pungent young Paladin, spitting out putrid slurry.

’TE HE, MY LITTLE PRINCE!’ laughed Snotglob the Green Dragon

’Wow, you have grown so much, you look amazing!’ praised the young Paladin.

THANK YOU, MY LITTLE PRINCE, I HAVE WHAT YOU SEEK & A WARNING! Said Snotglob the Green Dragon.

‘You have the Red Dragon Scale,’ asked the white Wizard.

‘OF COURSE, BUT THE SEA WITCH IS ON YOUR TRAIL, SHE WANTS HER OWL, & I AM NOT PERMITTED TO INTERVENE DIRECTLY’ Said Snotglob the Green Dragon.

‘So, what’s the plan?’ Said the young Paladin.

‘HEAD EAST & I WILL HELP YOU IF I CAN, BUT YOU MUST LEAVE NOW.’ Said Snotglob the Green Dragon with worry in her voice.

‘So, we are running from the Wicked Witch of the West, well least she doesn’t have flying monkeys,’ said the white Wizard smirking.

‘Or her Owl as you ate it.’ Said the young Paladin.

‘She is persistent, I will give her that,’ said the white Wizard stroking his beard.

‘WELL, WOULD YOU NOT HUNT DOWN THE CULPRIT, IF I WERE KILLED.’ Said Snotblob the Green Dragon with a sad tone.

‘Yes, we would,’ said the white Wizard with a wan smile & reaching to touch her nose.

Epic encounters have been written to be challenging and it is the duty of the GM to balance the adventure with the player ability and bringing in extra help to tip the balance is allowed as you are in charge right, but balancing is always the best way and letting in extra help or allow aid to come if needed for either your team or Red Dragon.

Life after Epic Encounters – Lair of the Red Dragon:
