Basic Gameplay
OK Play is a super portable version of Connect 4, but it’s connect 5 and WAY more fun. It comes with a carabiner to attach to your bag and four stacks of coloured square tiles. On your turn you place down a tile of your colour on the table. It has to be adjacent to a tile already placed, and you will be trying to place strategically to get 5 in a row either vertically, horizontally or diagonally. You will be trying to outsmart your opponents and set up a trap where they won’t see your devious plan until it's too late.
During the game, you will find that sometimes you need to block your opponents, or you can leave that to be someone else’s issue and you can work to further your own cause. In this way it can cause a little of the kingmaker/kingbreaker feel to it which may cause a minor family dispute. With there being the option to play at up to 4 players, there can be a little ganging up possible too.
Components
This game centres around its extreme portability. And boy does it deliver. The tiles are big and clacky and heavy enough to withstand any weather. The stacking poles and clip in system allow
it to be snapped to a bag in seconds. It also has orange and pink as colour options, which gets it a big tick for me! No notes here Big Potato Games.
Replayability
This is a simple abstract game. Each game you are doing the same thing, which is the appeal. Nothing changes game to game except EVERYTHING. Because you create the puzzle between you all afresh each time. So in my humble opinion, replayability is not an issue.
Round Up
If you’re looking for a family game great for camping, pubs or holidays then OK Play is the one for you. It is a simple mix of familiarity and family fun and is a great addition to anyone’s travel bag.
