The Eurovision Games Contest

The Eurovision Song Contest 2022 kicked off on Tuesday 10th May, their 66th edition. For our utter excitement and love of Eurovision, here at Zatu Games, we’ve decided to hold our own competition. Except our contestants will be board games, rather than singers…obviously.

Without further ado, here are the finalists for The 2022 Eurovision Games Contest:

1. Bruxelles 1893

Representing Belgium for the first Eurovision Games Contest is Bruxelles 1893. What’s the first thing you think of when you think of Belgium? Is it Art Noveau artitecture? If not it should be. Belgium is known for its magnificent Art Noveau styled buildings and in this game, you play an architect constructing these beautiful buildings or creating art to go inside them. This is not cheap work however and you must earn the materials by selling works of art and visiting the stock exchange.

Belgium is used to getting a top-10 entry in the song contest, but how will they fare in the Games?

2. Sagrada

Spain’s entry is Sagrada. In Sagrada you must construct a beautiful stained glass window, and you do this with dice. Sagrada is a pretty puzzle and has often been likened to sudoku. Albeit more Spanish.

Spain is known for its spectacular technicolour Eurovision performances entries and their Games entry is no different.

3. The Taverns of Tiefenthal

Germany is represented by The Taverns of Tiefenthal. If you have ever wanted to run your own medieval pub, here is your chance. The Taverns of Tiefenthal is a deck-building game and your aim is to upgrade your tavern with the money from the pockets of drunkards, aka your customers.

Germany has received 0 points twice in The Eurovision Song Contest, however, in our Eurovision Games Contest, they get 10/10.

4. Orleans

France is pulling out all the stops with its entry, Orleans. We have another medieval deck-building game here, however, this time it is Middle Ages France filled with farmers, knights, merchants, monks, and more! The aim of the game is to collect points and you win these by moving from town to town with your followers.

Barbara Pravi is France’s entry for Eurovision 2021, while we know Orleans is a sure winner, to Barbara we say Bonne chance!

5. Grand Austria Hotel

Austria’s entry is its namesake, Grand Austria Hotel. Forget the Marigold or Budapest, this game features the grandest hotel of them all. In this game, 2-4 players take on the role of hotel management. You must keep all the guests happy whether that’s in the suites, restaurant, or lobby. You must also keep the Austrian Emporer sweet, as he will be inspecting your hotel every now and then…

Austria made headlines and history in 2014 with their performance by Conchita Wurst. Will their first entry in the Eurovision Games Contest live up to that iconic performance? Play to find out!

We’ve picked the finalists, now the winner is up to you. Check out the rivalling games and choose your top game!
