Zatu Review Summary

Lego rocking plants on a green background

The Botanical range from LEGO really has taken a life of its own. From potted plants to beautiful bouquets there is something for everyone to own. Designed to give an eternal evergreen, your plants friends can have a new hobby to enjoy – the enduring joy of LEGO! And with the success of these Botanical plants, LEGO tried to bring a little bit more life to some of their sets by creating some happy plants. Real life cacti and plants brought into cutesy pots with smiling faces. The Rocking Plants set is another iteration of the original Happy Plants set. With interchangeable plants, the pink and yellow pots are sure to brighten anyone’s desk or shelf.

The 250-piece set is extremely good value, found both here on Zatu and other retailers for under 20 quid. Other sets in this range can easily be seen sneaking into the low £25 range for a similar brick count. This set is aimed at kids but is equally well received by adults of all ages. Both my wife and her aunt are massive fans of this fun little set, and it sits with pride on a shelf in our lounge. The sets contains LEGO’s new, more eco-conscience packaging and even information about each plant included. The two flowers included are a delosperma (ice plant) who is potted in the green pot called Lumi. The pink pot is called Ellie and she contains an echeveria, which is a type of cacti that can grow a long-stemmed flower!

Ellie the pink pot rocks from side to side whereas her counterpart, Lumi, rocks forwards and backwards. The pots have different expressions, and their “arms” are at different angles too. These sets include extended play for children with their ability to swap out the plants within them. This set is also compatible with the Happy Plants set I mentioned earlier with a choice of 4 plants being able to be swapped and re-potted over and over again.

The only issue with the Rocking Plants set is their name shake of rocking. Placed on a desk or table they can act as a fidget toy. You can gently move the, back and forth between types of keys, during meeting or during thinking time. The little pots only rock once in their direction and do not continue wobble back and forth. Of course, rocking LEGO requires some clever design to keep them up right, but it would have been nice to have a little rocking chair effect where they just continue under their own kinetic energy. This is a minor niggle though because I said the fact they rock without falling flat on their faces is very impressive.

The ever-expanding range of LEGO botanicals only looks to grow bigger. With these sets designed for teenagers (and adults alike) people can have both the joy of building and interaction that these sets bring. They will brighten any shelf or desk with their pastel hues, smiling faces and intricate and lush foliage. With the interchangeability between this set and other sets in this series there is lots to explore and enjoy. The instruction booklet provides some interesting pictures and real-world comparisons to photographs of the real things. I think for the price this is one of the best Botanical sets you can get to bring a little bit of plant life into your life.
