Animated characters are featured on a trading card pack for "Lorcana: Wilds of Eldraine." The colorful design showcases adventure and fantasy themes.

The 12th set of Disney Lorcana, “Wilds Unknown”, is finally on the horizon and it is set to lead all the Illumineers far beyond the familiar borders of the Realm and into the uncharted territories of the Inklands. Scheduled to the 15th of May with pre-release events taking place on the 8th, this new set will not only be the last one before the next set rotation but it will also look like a very intriguing chapter in the evolving story of this game.

The story is set to take place right after the events that led to the chilling (but super fun) eternal winter of Winterspell. Ravensburger is now taking the battle against the vine right into the Inklands showing us new and uncharted territory, and new revealing new regions of the magical realm. Similar to what was done just over two years ago when “Into the Inklands” released, this set will all be about Locations although the emphasis today is firmly on exploration. The Illumineers are venturing deeper into the Inklands, uncovering forgotten Domains, new Travellers Glimmers and tons of new Characters. Wilds Unknown is the first set to see the addition of Pixar Franchises to the game and there is a lot of excitement to see how Woody, Buzz and the Super from The Incredibles will impact the gameplay.

As always, when a new set arrives, my attention goes straight to the Illumineer’s Trove. This product is usually the most thematic, and the most cost-efficient product in every set and I always have it on my purchase list when a new set releases. This time, I had the great pleasure to receive one directly from Ravensburger ahead of the release and I am super excited to show you what you will get once Wilds Unknown releases!

Two Disney Lorcana game boxes sit on a colorful background. The left box displays detailed contents, while the right box features vibrant character art.

Lost Treasures in the Jungle – What’s Inside the Trove
The Wilds Unknown Illumineer’s Trove continues the tradition of providing everything a player needs to dive right into the set, starting with eight exciting booster packs. Each pack is like a small lost treasure that you can unwrap to show the 12 cards it holds. Each pack includes 6 commons, 3 un-commons, 2 rares or above, and a foil card of any rarity including the Epic and Iconic rarities introduced in set nine. In addition, each pack includes also one card of the new nine-piece puzzle art. This time, the theme of the puzzle-art is all about exploration with an Illumineer ready and packed for an adventure and Traveler Glimmers all around them.

Although the pulls from a trove can be very random, I am pretty happy with the cards I found out of my eight packs. The new Steel “Mrs. Incredible, Determined Rescuer” was the only Legendary I pulled but I quite like it considering her abilities “Pull back” (that provides “Resist +1” to all Characters) and “Regroup” (that ready another Super Characters if another character is banished during the Player turn). I also pulled 4 Super-Rare (including two copies of “Jessie, Lively Cowgirl”), 13 rare (of which 2 are foil) and 6 foil Commons and Uncommons. Among those last two I managed to get a “Sleepy, Deep Sleeper” and “Merryweather, Feisty Fairy” that are both part of extended artwork foiled cards.

Alongside the boosters, the Trove includes beautifully illustrated, and well designed accessories including six cardboard dividers, six damage-counter dice and one lore tracker. Both the dice and the Lore tracker are themed to match the set in a bright Orange colour. The tracker also shows the same artwork of the Trove in the front a nice floral theme on the back on the most external part of the wheel making these items quite thematic. I also love that the dice for this set have been improved for this to show the Lorcana Lore symbol instead of the “6”. This change is pretty nice as it makes the dice to be instantly linked to the game, instead of being six nicely-coloured generic dice.

Tabletop scene of a card game in progress, featuring "Lorcana" packs, colorful character cards, and orange dice. Lively and adventurous atmosphere.

Last but not least, the Trove box itself remains a standout accessory for long-term storage. This time, this storage solution is enriched with two sided card dividers: one side shows as usual notable characters from the franchises featured in the set, while the other shows the strange flora associated to each different Ink colour. This Ink-themed plants are also shown on the Lore tracker and the can be seen in some of the cards creating a very interesting connection between the game, the story and the material products. We saw Ravensburger starting to push these type of connection in Winterspell and it is quite nice to see them continuing working towards a more immersive experience.

Don't mind the destination, only the Journey - Final Thoughts

As always, the Illumineer’s Trove remains one of the best products you can pick up in any Disney Lorcana set. The value is excellent, the accessories are very well designed. What I really enjoyed in this trove is how strong is the thematic cohesion between the cards, the gameplay and the products of this set. Winterspell was an amazing set but Wilds Unknown really pushes the boundaries of what a Lorcana set can feel like: it is not just a collection of cards, it is a new chapter in a great adventure. I think the attention to the details in the Trove is a great example of the work the team at Ravensburger is doing to really elevate Lorcana to a next level.

I am also very grateful to Ravensburger for sharing these products with me and for giving me the opportunity to review them ahead of the release. I hope I made justice to how good the new Illumineer's trove is and you enjoyed the read.
