The King's Gambit - what to expect

Middle Earth needs you once again, there is a battle for the free people in which you are needed. Restoration Games has recently revealed their Kickstarter of the tabletop battle Queen’s Gambit. This time they have lovingly restored it into a Lord of the Rings themed battles featuring 4 beloved LoTR locations. From the White City of Minas Tirith to Mount Doom and The Pelennor Fields, you can play The King’s Gambit both solo and as teams. Each battlefield features the different character beloved and loathed alike. The orcs to Gandalf and Frodo and Samwise fulfilling their calling on Mount Doom.

Whether you play as the shadows or the Fellowship, you can win King’s Gambit through a military victory or a Ring victory. As you play the multi-layered battles you will complete objective which will allow you to advance further on the various fronts you are on. Victory for the Servants of the Shadows include reaching the top level of Minas Tirth or tempting Frodo and Samwise as they climb Mount Doom. The Free People can prevail through destroying the three orc encampments in the fields or reaching the fiery cracks with Frodo to destroy the evil Ring.

Each turn you’ll chose 4 action cards and which order to play them; on each card you’ll have the option to choose between two actions. Of course, this would not be a tabletop battle without dice rolls and Restoration Games have included these as part of the package. These dice determine in battle combat and can be manipulated for better outcomes.

Being such a vast a comprehensive game, King’s Gambit comes in two separate boxes for the beautiful miniatures and 3D recreations of Mount Doom and Minas Tirith. However, these are only available through the Kickstarter Edition. Copies brough from Space Cowboys in 2027 will have cardboard structures father than plastic printed one. Figurines are large and wonderful from as small as 15 mm all the way to 85 mm.

For a table worthy edition to a LoTR collector, this game is yet another feather in the cap for Middle Earth Enterprises. With licenced characters, this new addition adds the modern elements Queen’s Gambit never had. With an original designer onboard and excellent production companies backing the project, The King’s Gambit is sure to be enjoyed by all. Raising over £1 Million on Kickstarter – you can tell people are excited by this product. For an epic 90-150 battle sim you can see the alternatives to one of the most beloved stories ever told.
