Created by Veritasium, the hugely popular sicence and education YouTube channel created by Dr Derek Muller, Elements of Truth combines scientific curiosity and strategic game play, encouraging players to recall facts but also evaluate how confident they are in their answers. This clever mechanic mirrors how scientists debate and weigh evidence in real life.
How to Play
What sets Elements of Truth apart from other trivia games like Trivial Pursuit, is its confidence-based betting mechanic. Each player receives a set of numbered tokens to represent levels of confidence. When faced with a question, players don’t just answer, they place a token face down depending on how confident they are in their knowledge. Correct answers score points based on the tokens value -this allows for a fun risk strategy to come into play, as well as some friendly competition. It’s not just about being right, it’s knowing how right you are.
Game-play for the Brain
Elements of Truth contains four different categories of question formats to keep every round varied and interesting:
- True or False: classic judgement calls that can trip up the cleverest of players.
- More or Less: Intuition-based questions where players must guess if one fact outweighs the other.
- Multiple Choice: intruiging questions with multiple answers.
- Number Line: Players must write numeric guesses, aiming to get as close as possible to the correct answer.
Each game lasts ten rounds, with players collecting points based on their correct answers and confidence tokens.
