McDonald’s Monopoly has returned, giving customers another excuse to stare intensely at a sticker before inevitably finding out they’ve won absolutely nothing. The annual promotion is back across McDonald’s restaurants in the US from October 6, bringing a refreshed version of the familiar game and a new selection of prizes. Players can peel game pieces from eligible food packaging before scanning them through the McDonald’s app to see what they have won.
The biggest prizes include $1 million in cash, a 2027 Jeep Cherokee and a year's worth of McDonald’s via a $1,040 gift card. The promotion originally became famous for its peel-and-win format, and McDonald’s is leaning back into that this year. Rather than having multiple ways to play, the company says all gameplay will now take place through the app after customers have peeled their physical game pieces.
How does McDonald’s Monopoly work?
Getting involved is fairly straightforward, provided you already have the McDonald’s app downloaded. First, players need to register for the promotion through the app and opt in to McDonald’s Rewards. Once the game begins, customers can order eligible menu items and look for Monopoly stickers on their packaging. Peel the sticker, then scan the game piece using the McDonald’s app. Depending on what you reveal, you could receive an instant prize, collect a property, or receive a Chance Card game play. Players who register before ordering can also receive bonus Chance Card gameplay when purchasing eligible items through the app or by using their Rewards code at a kiosk, counter or drive-thru. This part of the promotion runs until November 1. McDonald’s brought its Monopoly promotion back last year following a ten-year absence, making this the second consecutive year the game has returned after its lengthy hiatus.
Which McDonald’s items have Monopoly pieces?
Not every item on the menu comes with a Monopoly game piece, so players will need to choose their orders carefully. Eligible breakfast items include Hash Browns, McMuffin sandwiches and biscuit sandwiches. Large soft drinks, iced coffees, iced teas and speciality McCafé drinks are also included, alongside large hot McCafé beverages. Once breakfast is over, players can find game pieces on large French fries, 10-piece Chicken McNuggets, Quarter Pounders with Cheese, Big Macs and 4-piece McCrispy Strips. So, if you've ever needed a reason to order a large portion of fries instead of a small one, McDonald's Monopoly has apparently arrived with an answer.
What can you win?
The prizes are split into four different categories, meaning you don't necessarily need to collect a complete set of Monopoly properties to win something. The simplest option is Instant-Win Food, which can give players free McDonald's items including McChicken sandwiches, Snack Wraps, McGriddles, shakes, smoothies and small fries. There are also Instant-Win Loyalty Points, with prizes ranging from 1,500 to 7,000 MyMcDonald's Rewards points. Then there's Collect to Win, which is where things get considerably more interesting. Players need to collect specific property combinations to claim larger prizes, including holidays such as a Carnival Cruise or a trip to Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. Other Collect to Win prizes include a 2027 Jeep Cherokee and a choice of one of three vehicles from Polaris.
And then there's the Chance Card
The fourth category is the Chance Card game, which gives players another opportunity to win prizes through the McDonald's app. Rewards include gift cards for brands such as Grubhub, Ulta Beauty, and Uber Eats, alongside some considerably larger prizes. Players could win $50,000 towards a home down payment, $50,000 towards paying down college debt, or cash prizes ranging from $10,000 all the way up to the headline $1 million prize. McDonald's has described this year's promotion as a "simplified experience", although the basic appeal remains the same: buy some food, peel a sticker, and hope you've somehow stumbled into a life-changing prize. The 2026 McDonald's Monopoly promotion is now underway in participating US restaurants, giving players until the promotion ends to start collecting their pieces and testing their luck.
