Twister, the highly entertaining classic party game that is more physically stimulating than mentally challenging.
Rules overview
A game for 2-4 people (as any more gets a touch ridiculous) starts around the game mat. Someone else needs to take control of the spinner. Nominate a starting player and spin, that player then needs to place a hand or foot on the coloured circle the spinner finished on. Play passes on to the next player and the process repeats.
It’s important to note, when that hand or foot is in place, you are not allowed to move it until the spinner lands on that body part and allows you to make a move. So take care in placement.
If a player falls or cannot reach the necessary spot they are out of the game. Play continues until only one player remains upright and unfallen to be deemed the winner.
Gameplay isn’t all that long so you will get many games played on one occasion. Tournaments can be created in larger gatherings to ensure everyone can be involved.
Fun to play
Twister is a highly entertaining and social game to get involved with. There may be a reluctance to get started but people quickly get into the game and very much strive for the victory to be the last player standing as it were.
Personally, it’s probably a game I compete most ferociously on because when it comes to a physical challenge I very much have to win. More than I have to in any board game. I’m never playing for second place and backing myself to come out on top. I enjoy a fit lifestyle with a decent core strength so trust that I can hold myself up in those tricky positions. That for me makes this game incredibly fun.
Fun to watch
It is also a great spectacle with a lot of entertainment to be had in watching it. The banter is rife as people cheer on friends and family to motivate them to or win. Or very much laugh at the extremely awkward places they see the players getting stuck in, which can get incredibly awkward very quickly.
Don’t be the person that doesn’t get involved though, it’s only fair to get involved and give other people the chance to reciprocate on any chuckles you may have had at their expense.
Twister also gets people talking and laughing together around the activity occurring. Because of its simplicity it straight away breaks down those awkward social barriers at a gathering and can get the occasion started.
The Drawbacks
You probably need to be in good health with a bit of a base level of fitness to get involved with this game. It’s by no means a given but if you want to do well in the game it will almost certainly help. That core strength, a decent level of balance and coordination as well as flexibility will stand you in excellent stead in this game. If you lack all these abilities it will most certainly be a challenging game to play and not last very long for you at all.
Twister is best played with 4 people. Just two people doesn’t work as well because there is plenty of space to work in. It isn’t a bad game with lower numbers, just not as effective.
Final Thoughts.
Twister is a great party game where everyone should want to be involved. It’s a lot fun, highly social and even gives a bit of a work out. Definitely worth picking up for your next party.
