Epic Encounters – Shrine of the Kobold Queen review

Epic Encounters – Shrine of the Kobold Queen Preparation:

Time to find some hot stuff. Well, the is a hot queen waiting for you, she will get your blood pumping, on her sacrificial alter that is!

Shrine of the Kobold Queen, designed to fit with DND 5th Edition. This unit contains a full encounter booklet, six medium and fourteen small unpainted miniature and illustrated battle map. The unit is designed to be a flexible encounter and can be played as a standalone adventure, necessary element along the way, or a side quest in a campaign. The Games Master (GM) will need to have to assess the players levels and pitch the difficulty but reading the full encounter booklet rather than scanned over will give the depth of the scenario and characters to make it a truly Epic Encounter.

Epic Encounters – Shrine of the Kobold Queen at play:

Shrine of the Kobold Queen, the game is designed as a battle encounter for any games master role playing game, primarily for a DND 5th Edition adventure, modification would be needed to any other role-playing system. The players play co-operatively unless you are a sneaky spy, to complete the scenario objective. The scenario is outlined to stop a Messiah Mother Krangor and her cult of the Bloody Flame from attacking local villages and put the kobolds back to where they belong, under the ground and bathed in lava. A band of plucky adventurers could save the day, or they might of course think it is a hot potato best avoided, and head further west of the mountain, to the sun kissed valley and civilisation, with a wide selection or entertainment & taverns. The GM manages the encounter, so if it is too challenging the scenario can be adjusted i.e. the Kobolds have to be subdued and their Queen has to be defeated for she wields far too much power and influence , some extra help is likely needed to prop up your teams’ weak points as the party will eventually end in a full-frontal assault after sneaking around for a bit, so maybe a few thieves and assassins to improve your chances when they are overrun by kobold chaos.

Booklets, Maps & Miniatures:

Shrine of the Kobold Queen, booklet contains, a detailed scenario and background of Mother Krangor and her cult, and her & her minion abilities and behaviour in battle or play, as well as Mother Krangor s perspective on what she needs and what the outcomes could be. The booklet provides guidance on difficulty, stats, and background from the Kobold camp and the approach area to Mother Krangor’s shrine. The battle map is beautifully illustrated and on decent quality paper and is double sided one side with the Kobold camp and the other side Mother Krangor’s shrine itself, but you will need to flatten it out. The Shrine of the Kobold Queen has twenty miniatures with nine separate sculpts and are all unpainted and unprimed but are very nicely detailed. The pieces are, four medium size miniatures of one sculpt & two medium miniatures of two sculpts of Mother Krangor & her pet and small miniatures include four miniatures of two sculpts, two miniatures of two sculpts and then two miniatures with one sculpt, but the set is more generous & detailed compared to the Local Encounter sets.

‘Did we outrun them.’ asked young Paladin, panting and wiping the sweat from his brow.

‘Yes, … I think so, they… are heading … south,’ wheezed the white Wizard.

‘Where is my owl!’ Screeched the Sea Witch.

‘Oh… Hi, um… how are you? Out of the frying pan… It to the fire?’ said the white Wizard, a cold feeling streaking down is neck and back.

‘He ate it, there was no frying pan you roasted it on a spit, he said it was delicious!’ Said the young Paladin.

‘You’re not helping,’ said the white Wizard.

‘You will die, no’ crazed sniggering ‘your pet Paladin will die, so you can feel the pain and loss I feel.’ Said the Sea Witch. Her hands dancing in some theatrical spell casting.

‘He is protected from your magic,’ rambled the white Wizard, ending his ramble with a huge smile.

SPLAT! ‘SO SORRY, I AM SO CLUMBSY. SO, YOU’RE THE SEA WITCH?’ Said Snotglob the Green Dragon.

‘You… Snotblob! You are not to intervene. You, slimy worm!’ screeched the Sea Witch.

‘YOU BROKE THE RULES, THE LITTLE PRINCE IS MY PET, YOU WERE TO ONLY TAKE THE WIZARD, THE DEAL IS FORTFIT, I SUGGEST YOU RUN!’ Said Snotglob the Green Dragon.

‘Death’ cast the Sea Witch.

Whoosh …. ‘CRISPY SEA WITCH ANYONE?’ Said Snotglob the Green Dragon.

Epic encounters have been written to be challenging and it is the duty of the GM to balance the adventure with the player ability and bringing in extra help to tip the balance is allowed as you are in charge right, but balancing is always the best way and letting in extra help or allow aid to come if needed for either your team or Mother Krangor’s or her cult.
