Oakspire is the latest offering from Lucky Duck Games, raising over $125,000 whilst on Kickstarter. Oakspire is a city building game where you are architects building a tableau of beautiful buildings, fulfilling projects and creating sustainable solutions to gain the vital resource of wood. Every project needs different refinements of wood, from planks to reclaimed wood, as your city grows so will your processing of this precious resource. Wood is gained from the back of every card, being converted into reclaimed wood, which then can be produced into greater qualities for better buildings as you progress.
With an advertised time of 20 minutes per player, solo to 5 player counts will feel fun as actions can be taken whilst others take their turn. Cards are displayed on the Community Board, where you can take free actions. Each turn has the option of 6 different actions; this game is on the heavier side despite its cute exterior! The game is due to be delivered at the end of the year with a December date advertised.
The game ends depending on the number of cards built in each tableau, with the most cards needed for a two-player game and the least for five players. Points are tracked via coins, which are gained throughout gameplay from buildings, projects, and the number of coins too. Each character has their own company, giving them their own feel and difference to try out and play. Oakspire: The Builders of the Sunleaf Grove is a heavy game for lovers of Everdell, Between Two Cities, and even Great Western Trail. With card-driven objectives and an interesting economy, Oakspire is sure to brighten anyone’s day!
