The Monolith is a brand-new competitive board game from Plaid Hat Games, designed for three to four players.
Set on a distant alien planet, the game throws players into a struggle for the favour of a mysterious ancient Monolith.
An ancient structure with unknown origins has twisted the minds of everyone who encounters it, transforming explorers into bloodthirsty warriors driven by a single purpose. Fight. Win. Glorify the Monolith!
Players step into the role of rival shamans, each convinced they are the one true voice of the alien monument. Naturally, every other shaman believes exactly the same thing...
Fast combat takes centre stage
Plaid Hat describes The Monolith as a game built around quick decisions and brutal confrontations.
Rather than focusing on long periods of planning, players will constantly battle for control while upgrading their shamans with increasingly powerful abilities. Positioning, timing and clever manoeuvres all play a part, but combat is very much at the heart of the experience.
Every victory earns greater glory in the eyes of the mysterious Monolith, while every defeated rival brings you one step closer to proving your dominance.
Packed with miniatures
One of the biggest highlights revealed so far is the impressive production quality.
The Monolith comes loaded with highly detailed miniatures, including warriors, shamans, buildings and, of course, the enormous Monolith itself towering over the battlefield.
Plaid Hat has even teased some unusual additions among the components, including sculpted human hearts that fit perfectly with the game's dark sense of humour and over-the-top setting.
Players can also expect a large game board, double-layered player boards for keeping track of actions, upgrades and forces, plus plenty of other deluxe components.
Plaid Hat is aiming high
Plaid Hat Games has built a strong reputation for creating memorable tabletop experiences, particularly games that combine distinctive worlds with engaging gameplay.
The publisher is perhaps best known for Summoner Wars, which continues to grow years after its original release. The popular franchise is even expanding beyond tabletop gaming, with an original comic book series scheduled to launch later this year.

The Monolith officially launched on Kickstarter on 25 June 2026, giving fans the chance to back the project ahead of its eventual retail release.
As with many crowdfunding campaigns, backers can expect more information to be revealed throughout the campaign, including gameplay previews, stretch goals and a closer look at the components inside the box.
