The Danes: A Feast for Odin sequel coming in 2027

Cloudy sky over a sunlit hill and forest, with large red text "The Danes" and smaller text "A Feast for Odin Game." Peaceful atmosphere.

Fans of Uwe Rosenburg’s modern masterpiece and Board Game Geek top 100 game A Feast for Odin should get themselves excited for next year, as The Danes is arriving.

Yes the follow up to the 2016 classic has been officially announced, with Rosenburg back on board as its designer and Feuerland Spiele as publisher, The Danes promises you will be setting sail again to embark on all new adventures in the Feast for Odin world, with more worker placement and Eurogame goodness to be enjoyed.

Set to arrive on Gamefound at some point next year, its likely The Danes will be one of the most anticipated releases of 2027.

Let’s Feast Again

A Feast for Odin is one of those modern board games that anybody even remotely close to the tabletop hobby knows all about.

Almost the ultimate Eurogame, fans fell in love with its weighty gameplay loop and engine building as you look to accrue the most victory points.

While it could sometimes feel a little dry for some, it provided one of the purest ‘proper’ board game experiences you could find, the kind of game you would introduce to people who had moved past their gateway game beginnings and wanted something a bit deeper to explore.

So over 10 years after the release of this mega hit, The Danes will have a lot of pressure to live up to, but Uwe Rosenburg rarely misses when it comes to his board games.

Setting Sail in 2027

The Danes is promising its backers its going to be legendary, redefining the genre of worker placement and tile laying games. The first way it shows this on Gamefound it’s the sheer size of the box, as it dwarfs the size of A Feast for Odin, which was already a big box game!

You will in essence be reenacting the life of a Viking in The Danes, helping to grow your tribe. Hunting, farming, crafting, sailing and more is all represented, with the actions you take requiring more of your Vikings the stronger the action performed.

You will be gaining resources similar to its predecessor, placing them onto your home board for ongoing benefits, with a combination of mechanics that is really unique, while still offering that familiarity that will please fans of A Feast for Odin.

And if you back it you will get a whole load of Viking goodness for your money. While A Feast for Odin came with one exploration board, The Danes will come with 26 distinct exploration boards and 40 unique building boards, so every time you get it to the table the experience will be different.

With more to be announced over the coming months as well, The Danes is truly shaping up to be an exciting project.

Final Thoughts

While my personal experience of A Feast for Odin is limited, The Danes looks like a really exciting prospect, and perhaps would be an ever better place to start your journey in this Viking world than the original once its released.

From the early information I can gleam, it looks like there is just going to be so much to do in the game that the board gamer in me can’t wait to explore the various actions you can take, puzzling out the different strategies and diving deep into the various exploration boards. And while the sheer size of it might be difficult to fit into my house, I am sure I can just about squeeze it into my collection.

No confirmed release date as yet announced, but its looking hopeful for 2027, so make sure you keep an eye on Gamefound for more news.
