Tekken is stepping out of the arcade and onto your tabletop – and fans are clearly here for it. Tekken: The Board Game launched on Gamefound earlier this month, and it smashed through its funding goal in just 35 minutes.
With more than €730,000 raised (and climbing!) and over 2,700 backers, the game is almost a guaranteed success – and there’s still plenty of time left to jump in.
Trailer & Gameplay
The trailer dropped alongside the campaign and it does an excellent job of capturing the Tekken feel — dramatic narration, fighters facing off, and highlights of the moves you’d expect from the series.
Gameplay sees 1–8 players take their favourite characters into fast-paced matches or full-blown tournaments. Each fighter comes with their own deck of cards packed with familiar Tekken mechanics – combos, Rage Arts, the Heat system and wall smashes.
Stages aren’t just backdrops either. You’ll be brawling across arenas like Sanctum, Urban Square, Descent Into Subconscious, and Into the Stratosphere.
Minis, Fighters & Expansions
The core box is already stacked with eight chunky minis: Jin, Kazuya, King, Paul, Jack-8, Nina, Asuka, and the one and only Yoshimitsu. Each fighter has a unique playstyle to master, so there’s a match for the calculated player and the out-and-out fighter.
And that’s just the start. Expansions are already planned, with the first introducing Panda, while the next adds Kuma and Heihachi. With stretch goals on the horizon, it looks like the roster is only going to get bigger.
Why It Matters
It’s not easy for a video game as beloved as Tekken to make the jump to cardboard, but this project looks set to deliver the goods. Fans are praising the way the designers have captured the feel of the digital brawler with card-driven mechanics that echo combos and finishers.
The campaign is live on Gamefound now — and with stretch goals rolling out, the fight’s only just begun!
