Summer 2025 saw Atomic Mass Games, under the ownership of Asmodee, announce a raft of products to “refresh” Star Wars Legion. Originally they were keen to stress this was not a 2nd edition but now are saying it is a New Edition 2.6! This may be confusing, but it’s worth investigating further as the new products are really nice and the rules have been streamlined.
Feel the Force
The new version has better miniatures, presentation, streamlined rules and apparently better play balance. They unit cards are not compatible with the old rules but the figures can be used by adding the new cards either from print and play off the Atomic Mass Games website or by buying the professionally made upgrade packs as they are released.
The new rules are also freely available to download – all 73 pages of them!
The minis are now top quality hard plastic models and with even a half decent paint job are going to look tremendous. The Rebel starter set offers a more diverse range of alien races plus a whole troop of Wookies (what is the collective noun for Wookies?)
You are going to get a lot of value in any of the 4 Starter sets. It has been estimated the value of the figures alone are roughly twice the cost of the set and then there’s all the new cards, rules, dice, counters and player aids. What can I say I know I’m going to get mine before they all sell out.
As of today (October 25) 14 of the New Edition Product Packs are available from ZATU with a further 5 marked as expected by early November. Presumably, the rest will arrive as in the road map above. The new edition Star Wars Legion can be identified by their new Orange flashed logo – how very ZATU!
