Pokémon TCG Pocket reveals major changes coming in October 2026

The Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket team has revealed a host of upcoming changes designed to make collecting cards and battling other players more enjoyable. In a producer letter published on 15 October 2026, the development team outlined its plans for the next series, which is scheduled to begin at the end of October. The update will introduce new features, expand existing events and make it easier for players to build their collections without feeling rushed. One of the biggest changes is a longer gap between booster pack releases, alongside the debut of dual-type Pokémon. There are also improvements planned for rental decks, trading and deck-building, giving players more ways to enjoy the mobile card game.

Pokémon TCG Pocket moves to a six-week release cycle

Since launch, Pokémon TCG Pocket has generally introduced new booster packs approximately every four weeks. However, the developers acknowledged feedback from players who have found it difficult to keep up with the growing number of cards. Starting with the new series, booster pack releases will move to a cycle of roughly six weeks. The aim is to give players more time to collect cards and complete their sets before the next expansion arrives. To make the longer gaps more engaging, the team also plans to expand the events and missions available between releases. These additions will offer more activities for players interested in both collecting and battling. Dual-type Pokémon will also make their debut in the new series, adding another dimension to the game's battles. Further details about these cards and their impact on gameplay are yet to be revealed.

New ways to collect cards

Several additions will give collectors more opportunities to obtain distinctive cards without relying entirely on opening booster packs.

Immersive cards through missions

Immersive cards have been a popular part of Pokémon TCG Pocket, and the next series will introduce additional ways to obtain them.

Alongside immersive cards available through booster packs, players will be able to earn different immersive cards by completing collection-focused missions. This gives dedicated collectors another goal to work towards while building their Pokédex.

First Partners special pack

A new Special Pack called First Partners is also on the way, featuring cards depicting the first partner Pokémon from each of the nine regions featured in the main Pokémon video game series.

Unlike standard booster packs, special packs use a separate stamina system that replenishes once a week. Players will therefore need to keep an eye on their available stamina when deciding when to open them.

Three new illustrated promo cards

Collectors will also have the opportunity to obtain three ★1 promo cards featuring distinctive illustrations built around a unified theme.

Event missions will be introduced weekly over a three-week period, with players able to earn one of the three promo card varieties by completing each set of missions.

Those hoping to collect all three will need to keep up with the weekly challenges, making this another activity to look forward to during the extended booster pack cycle.

Community Decks make battling more accessible

Deck-building is about to become easier thanks to a new feature called Community Decks.

The system will allow players to browse decks created by other users directly in the game, including popular builds and decks used by their friends. Players can then recreate these decks using cards from their own collections.

Until now, the game has offered tools such as theme deck lists and deck-sharing codes to help players put together their strategies. Community Decks will provide another option, particularly for anyone struggling to decide which cards work well together. The feature could also prove useful for newer players who want to get into battles without spending ages experimenting with different combinations. Experienced players, meanwhile, will have an easier way to discover popular strategies and see what their friends are using.

Rental decks receive a major upgrade

Rental decks are also getting several improvements.

Previously, players had to work around restrictions on how rental decks could be obtained and how many times they could be used. The development team has confirmed that, beginning with the new series, rental decks will become available alongside new booster pack releases and can be used an unlimited number of times.

They will also become available in versus battles, making it easier to try out different strategies without needing to own every card in a deck. These changes should make rental decks a more useful option for casual players and anyone who wants to experiment with new cards before committing to building their own deck.

Limited Battle events introduce new challenges

The next series will also introduce Limited Battle events, which restrict the cards players can use during a match.

These events are planned to take place a set period after each booster pack release, encouraging players to experiment with different decks rather than relying on their usual favourites. Rewards will depend on the number of victories achieved and can include battle accessories, promo packs and other items. The events are intended to provide a different competitive experience while remaining accessible to players who are still learning the game's battle mechanics.

Trading and sharing improvements are coming too

The update isn't just about collecting and battling. The development team is also working on improvements to trading and sharing features.

Planned additions include the ability to check which cards of any rarity are missing from a trading partner's card dex during a trade. Another feature will identify cards on a sharing partner's wishlist, making it easier to understand which cards they want. These changes should help players find more useful trading opportunities and make sharing cards with friends a smoother experience. The team has also confirmed that further features and improvements are planned to arrive alongside booster pack releases throughout the new series.

When will the Pokémon TCG Pocket update arrive?

The next series is scheduled to begin at the end of October 2026, with the new features and changes planned as part of the upcoming update. The developers have stressed that the details remain under development, meaning both the contents and timing of individual updates could change.

With a slower booster pack schedule, new dual-type Pokémon, expanded collecting missions and significant improvements to deck-building, the next series looks set to give players plenty of reasons to return to Pokémon TCG Pocket. Whether you're chasing immersive cards, experimenting with Community Decks or looking to complete your collection, there's a lot to look forward to!
