Melton Couple launches music-themed board game

A board game built from years of music debates between friends has struck a strong chord with backers!

A Melton Mowbray couple have seen their new creation, WeDJ!, surge past its initial funding target in under 12 hours on Kickstarter, with pledges continuing to climb following a busy showing at UK Games Expo.

Ross and Faye Spencer, who run independent publishing label Spring Chicken Games, launched the campaign last week. By the end of the weekend, the project had reached close to 200 per cent of its original funding goal.

From Fire Pit Conversations to Tabletop Game

The idea behind WeDJ! came from a simple recurring question among friends: what song would you pick for a given situation?

Over time, those conversations evolved into a full party game built around music choices, memory and personal stories.

Players are challenged with category prompts and must select songs that fit each one. The result is often lively debate, shared nostalgia and plenty of unexpected musical discoveries.

A Strong Expo Showing

Momentum for the campaign picked up further after Ross and Faye showcased the game at UK Games Expo at Birmingham’s NEC, where it was played by attendees throughout the weekend.

The couple also plan to appear at a local event in Melton Mowbray, where they will continue demonstrating the game to potential backers and players.

Faye Spencer described WeDJ! as a project built around connection, saying it grew from years of “music debates, funny stories and shared memories” into something designed to bring people together around the table.

Next Steps

With funding now comfortably secured, attention is turning to production.

The team is working towards finalising UK manufacturing based on the final pledge total, with the aim of delivering copies to backers later in the year, likely around September or October.

As their first published game, WeDJ! marks an important milestone for Spring Chicken Games, and a successful start to what began as a simple idea shared between friends.

For a project that started around casual conversation, it now looks well on its way to becoming a real-world soundtrack for game nights.
