What news this is. I cannot believe Samurai Swords is celebrating 40 years but it completely makes sense as I was playing this game as a child. It is a truly iconic board game. I have hugely fond memories of playing this wargame like board game that saw some epic encounters play out in the setting of feudal Japan.
A game for 2 to 5 players where the Daimyo of Japan are at war, all looking to take over and be ruler of the great nation. It is merciless and ruthless. It gets incredibly messy but it’s a huge amount of fun.
From reading through the Gamefound campaign this is not a product that is going to retail. It is a one off shot for the celebration set. Retailers will have a chance to buy it but ultimately this is the chance for it.
Why would you want to back it? There doesn’t appear to be anything new as far as gameplay goes. It appears like the same game anyone who has played it will already know. There looks to be a lot of quality about the components of this set though which has huge appeal. There is also a gorgeous looking neoprene game board which is stunning (and an extra cost). The campaign is also being run by Renegade Game Studios which is worth noting.
This game isn’t for everyone. It can be quite long and players do drop out with no way of entering back into play until the remaining finish the game. That being said, if you are a fan of an historical piece, with huge amounts of strategy and that war based element then definitely worth looking into. Check the campaign out at the very least and follow the link.
Good luck Renegade Game Studios. Given the funding goal has already been achieved, it is a given there, but enjoy bringing this one around again.
