Disney Lorcana 2nd Year Anniversary – Tons of news from Gen Con Press Conference!

The second year Anniversary of Disney Lorcana TCG is finally here and with it some great celebrations at Gen Con where the game was first previewed. Ravensburger is celebrating this important milestone with a number of initiatives, promos and a massive Press Conference to share with all Disney Lorcana fans some very juicy details about the new sets and what we should expect in the third year of this amazing game. I was blown away by the artwork of some of the cards previewed during the event and I almost got lost into the details that were shared by Tito. Let’s start in order and see if I can recap everything:

Fabled: The start of a new adventure Fabled, the ninth set of Disney Lorcana, will release on the 29th of August in all local game shops and it will kick-off the third year of the game. Fabled will also mark the beginning of the Set Rotation thus it will include a lot of reprints to ensure Players can still play their favourite cards and decks. Fabled will also include two new rarities: “Epic” that should be less difficult to pull than Legendaries but rarer than Super Rare and “Iconic” that will be much more difficult to pull than Enchanted. Fans at Gen Con got the first peak to the first two Iconic cards, “Mickey Mouse, Brave Little Prince” and “Minnie Mouse, Sweetheart Princess” and to the outstanding full alternate artwork, unique foil pattern, and foil hot-stamped text and stats.

Mickey is a cost-3 Ruby card that can Shift for 5. This is the first time the cost of a card is lower than the cost to shift it and the main reason is that when Mickey is played with Shift, its Lore, Strength and Willpower increases by 3. Minnie, on the other hand, is an Amber cost-4 card that provides all Characters named Mickey with Support and can banish an opponent Character with Strength of 5 or more as far as they are exerted. Best part is that this ability triggers every time Minnie quests making this one of the few real removal options for Amber.

While we heard earlier last week that the majority of the cards featured in Fabled will be reprints, there are also 33 mechanically new cards coming to the game. These new cards will come from two new Disney franchises that will make their first appearance in Lorcana: Dumbo and A Goofy Movie. There has been a lot of talking about the new Goofy Movie cards, in particular about Powerline, that is not only a great Character but, most important, the first Ruby Singer. As expected by the “World’s Greatest Rock Star”, Powerline not only has great stats but he also has the ability to grab a Song from the top four cards of the Player deck and sing it for free once a turn. The trigger for this ability is for Powerline to sing another song and with his Singer 9, I doubt there will be cases he will lose his voice… And yes, the two main songs from the movie, “I2I” and “Stand Out”, will also be among those Powerline can sing. Stand out is the first Epic card to be revealed for this set and confirmed the expectation that the new Epic cards will feel a lot like the very first Enchanted cards that is a fitting approach to celebrate the new year in Lorcana. To double down on the excitement, I2I will be also featured as an Enchanted with an amazing Artwork. This song seems also mechanically interesting as singing I2I will benefit all players with Lore and Draw but if more than one Character sings it, this song can also ready all of them creating the bases for interesting mechanics.

The first two cards from the movie Dumbo we saw during the conference seem to focus a lot on teamwork and combo effects. “Dumbo, The Flying Elephant” can in fact make another Character Evasive for a turn while “Timothy Q. Mouse, Flying Instructor” can Quest for one more if there is any Evasive Character in play. This type of synergy is not new to Lorcana and it proved quite effective in the past therefore I cannot wait to see how other cards from this movie will add to these effects.

“Whispers in the Well”: set 10 preview After the celebration of Fabled, Disney Lorcana TCG is about to enter a new mysterious phase with the release of the 10th set of this TCG planned for November the 7th at all local Game Stores (November the 14th on all other shops and online). The first picture of “Whispers in the Well” shown a few month ago hinted to some new mechanic and to the Gargoyle franchise to be added to the game. During the Press conference, Ravensburger confirmed that the “Whispers” are partially formed Glimmers that will be at the centre of a new intriguing story.

Illumineers will need to “Light Your Path” in order to solve the mystery of these ethereal whispers and they will be supported in this task by the introduction of new “Detective” Characters. With the upcoming release of the movie Zootropia 2, it does not surprise that new versions of Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps will be among these amazing Detectives that will help uncover the mysteries that lie ahead.

The Players and fans attending Gen Con this year were also able to secure a promo from set 10, “Goofy, Emerald Champion”. Goofy seems a very interesting card considering both his abilities are triggered by/target Emerald cards. We previously had cards designed to interact with certain Characters or Keywords but this is the first time a card affect a specific Ink colour. The community has already reacted pondering the possibility that single-Ink colour Decks may become a feasible option in the future. I think there is also a chance that “colourless cards” or Items/Abilities that allow a cards to be considered as belonging to another Ink Colour may also be among the possible options. Moreover, I think the ability of this Goofy card suggests that Dual Colour Ink cards are likely to be a solid part of Lorcana in the future.

More Products to enjoy Lorcana artwork: Puzzles and Elsa Gift Box

Ravensburger also announced that will be more products not linked to specific sets that will be releasing between set 9 and set 10 starting from 6 new puzzles that will be available for purchase from the 1st of September. These new 1000 pc. Puzzles will feature a collection of iconic Disney glimmers and they will all be themed around one of the magical Ink colours that power the Realm of Lorcana. The team at Gen Con revealed the artwork for the Amber, Emerald, Ruby and Sapphire puzzles, while Amethyst and Steel will be revealed soon. All products will also include promo card featuring “Mickey Mouse, True Friend”. The good news is that Players and Collectors in UK will be able to get all products directly from any store while in US two of these puzzles will be Disney Exclusives.

One month after the release of the puzzles, Ravensburger will release the Elsa Gift Box. The new Box will be very similar to the Lilo one released previously with the important difference that will only include booster packs from the set currently in rotation. This means Players will have a chance to get a beautiful “Glimmer-Foil” Elsa and storage box together with five random Booster packs to enjoy. I had a lot of fun using the packs from the Lilo Gift Box to play Pack rush or Chaos Draft formats but it is also an opportunity to pull some valuable cards for your collection or your decks.

What more lies ahead?

As usual, the Ravensburger team couldn’t resist to drop some hints of what lies beyond the horizon of the Inklands. We already know that in December all Players will have a chance to win the Worlds celebratory card “A whole new world” as part of a Christmas initiative but now we know that the the 11th set of Disney Lorcana will be called “Winterspell”. This set is planned to release in Q1 2026 and the preview picture showed a nice wintery theme that promises “Flurries of Fun” with both Stitch and Angel (Experiment 624). I cannot wait to see how this theme and these Characters will impact the game.

Finally, Ravensburger team confirmed they are still looking to add Pixar to Disney Lorcana in 2026 starting from the Characters from Toy Story. We will likely need to wait for set 12 to see Buzz and Woody and all the other iconic Characters from this series but it will be worth waiting for sure! Make sure to check out the Lorcana website for more updates!
