Board gaming continues to get cosier with Oakspire: The Builders of the Sunleaf Grove coming to Kickstarter on April 7th.
Described as a cozy tableau building game of wood and wonder, this 1-5 player game looks certain to be a firm favourite for fans of the tableau building genre, mixed with the current trend of anthropomorphic animals to truly get those warm cozy feelings generating.
So go put the kettle on, wrap yourself round your warmest blanket, and get ready to explore the land of Oakspire.
Welcome to Sunleaf Grove
In Oakspire you will be playing as a Grove Architect, planning projects, organising supply lines and transforming timber to build various sustainable structures, using different resources and cards to build your perfect tableau within Sunleaf Grove.
As the Kickstarter states, you will be collecting, crafting and building, in a peaceful, puzzling cycle, with a game that looks perfect for a chilled Sunday afternoon.
Each turn you will perform 3 actions, revolving around the use of project cards. You can use them to turn them into resources, play them for their actions or to upgrade resources, and even blueprint them to start working on a brand new building for your tableau, which you will be transforming into a bustling metropolis of nature in no time.
The early look at the cards show the stunning artwork Oakspire will be proving us tabletop enthusiasts, with each project card showing different parts of Sunleaf Grove which have all been beautifully hand illustrated, to make the game look like it will really standout on your board game table.
The game will come with some really interesting looking components, including a community game mat, player mats, architect tokens, coin tokens and some fantastic looking resource tokens.
All in all this looks like an incredible game to back if you’re liking these vibes, and with it coming on April 7th there isn’t long to wait to get your pledge in.
Time to Build
While I always try and be very careful when it comes to the amount of games I back on Kickstarter, Oakspire really is standing out for me as one to keep an eye on.
Obviously the main comparison people will make when seeing this is Everdell, with its woodland critter vibes and similar sounding mechanics, but as someone who has Everdell as one of their favourite games of all time, early impressions of Oakspire suggests it offers enough difference to provide something new, while still giving those lovely cozy vibes which are always a hit in my household.
It’s also being published by Lucky Duck Games, who have a track record of excellent titles such as mega hits like Food Chain Magnate and Flamecraft, so I trust that Oakspire could become another jewel in their board game crown.
