Big news for board-gaming families: Asmodee has just revealed a brand-new kids’ label, and it’s set to bring some of the publisher’s biggest hits to a younger audience. Think shorter playtimes, simpler rules, and plenty of fun that little ones can actually get stuck into.
The new line is kicking off this month with My First Unlock!, a junior-friendly twist on the hugely popular escape-room-in-a-box series. That’ll be followed by Splendor Kids in October and Dixit Kids in January. If you’ve ever tried to teach a seven-year-old how engine-building works or expected them to sit through a full-length Dixit session… well, you’ll understand why this move makes sense.
These aren’t just “shrunk down” versions, though. Asmodee has worked with child development specialists and playtested the games in schools and community groups to make sure they’re as engaging as they are approachable. Each title is designed to wrap up in under 30 minutes – long enough for kids to feel immersed, but short enough to keep the wiggly ones at the table.
Asmodee’s CEO Thomas Koegler summed it up neatly: the goal is still maximum fun, but with the bonus of helping kids sharpen focus, adaptability, and emotional skills along the way. And the best part? Parents get to dive into games they already know and love without needing a degree in rulebook translation.
Of course, this isn’t Asmodee’s first foray into the land of kids’ gaming (Catan Junior and Ticket to Ride: First Journey paved that road a while back). But the launch of “Asmodee Kids” feels like a full-on statement – one that says: “Hey, our classics aren’t just for game night with the adults anymore.”
With My First Unlock! just around the corner, families won’t have long to wait before cracking open the first box. So if you’ve been itching to introduce your kids to the hobby without scaring them off with a 20-page rulebook… this new line might be just what your gaming shelf has been missing.
