This month, Mighty Boards have taken to Kickstarter to release a deluxe version of their hit title, Art Society, alongside a new expansion named “Friends in High Places”.
Art Society is a tile placement auction title based on the display of artwork you purchase each round in an auction against your other players. Each turn a new player selects at random the artwork which will be on sale, and bids are made to secure your first choice. Careful however, the unsold pieces form the basis of the scoring mechanism as they enter the museum, and positioning in your collection could cost you a faux pas, or leave you unable to fit new works into your wall, removing the points scored for elements of your collection, or even forcing the end of the game.
The deluxe version contains several upgrades to the base game content, including the use of a wooden gavel (for those thematic art auction moments!), foil lined cards, metallic score markers and a brand new designed game tray solution from Gametrayz.
In addition, the new expansion contains additional sets of goals or characters to impress with the collections you amass: the Art Curator, the Socialite and the Critic. Attaining these goals and impressing these figures earlier or more closely than your rivals provides early access to powerful scoring opportunities, powers and upgrades, which could turn the game to your favour. The expansion will include over 37 tokens and 55 cards to use across the three new figures, meaning there will be plenty of variety and replay ability with these in your game.
If you are like me, and you already own Art Society, then you can purchase the expansion separately, however if you haven’t yet explored this title, there is an all in option. Alternatively, the base game is available at Zatu here, so you have plenty of time to get to grips with the base game before the expansion arrives!
