A Spooktacular Night at Hercules the Musical: Hades and Disney Lorcana take over the show!

As you all know very well, the last night of October is a night of magic, when pumpkins glow by the moonlight and the ghosts roam the streets. It is also a night of fun and excitement filled with treats and family events. This Halloween, even the Gods decided to descend from Mount Olympus to share their Halloween tales and join the fun and celebrations in a very very special event for Hercules the Musical.

Hercules the Musical officially opened in London’s West End on June 24, 2025, at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane and it is planned to run until the end of March. The theatre is usually pulsing with electrifying energy and a nice eerie charm, suitable to tell the brilliant story of Hercules, our beloved hero (and Phil’s Boy). However, when the guests arrived this Friday, they were met by a very different atmosphere as the planets were finally aligned and Hades was able to put in motion his evil plan.

“Halloween belongs to Hades” was the new vibe across the venue, with flickering torches, shadowy columns, and carved pumpkins. All mortals attending the show were encouraged to “Step forward and make the cut” but no-one was ready for what the show and the event had in store for us. If you dare learning what happen and how Disney Lorcana fits into this event, please lift the curtains and continue reading…

The Musical: A Hero that can do something no other Gods have done

“Hercules, The Musical” is the real deal. It has amazing gospel numbers, dazzling choreography, moving majestic Greek columns and an amazing cast to bring it all together. As you may know, the main hero of the story is Hercules, the son of Zeus and Era that has been (almost) rendered human by his uncle Hades. Hades, on the other hand, is not only the main villain of the story but also one of the best villain in the Disney cinematic world with as much sarcasm as anger management problems.

Without spoiling the story too much, I think it is important to mention that the show in London is not exactly identical to the movie from 1997. The musical actually re-imagines the animated classic bringing new flavour to the story and changing a bit some of the characters and their roles in the story. The Muses, in particular, become much more present in the Musical with new powerful songs and dresses that keep changing to highlight particular moments in the story. Their most known song, “Zero to hero”, in particular is not only an explosion of energy but an amazing way to close the first act of the Musical.

Disney Lorcana: a night at the show

Together with a new story and new twists, the musical event on Halloween night also had two more great Disney surprises in store for all the guests. The first one was waiting right in the lobby of the theatre where the Ravensburger team setup a Disney Lorcana stand to showcase the new Whisper in the Well set. The stand was easy to identify thanks to the giant version of the new iconic card “Hades, Looking for a Deal” that was perfectly themed for this Halloween takeover event. The team also had all the Iconic, Epic and Enchanted cards from the new set on display together with all new products and the view was impressive!

Ravensburger announced early in October they will be attending the event making it a great opportunity for all players and collectors to join them and get a taste of the new cards. A few bloggers including myself joined the celebration thanks to Ravensburger invitation and kindness and it was great to see how many players dressed-up as Disney Characters for the occasion. If you are wondering, I was Dr. Facilier and I got a copy of “Friends” in my hat instead of the usual feather.

The show was also an opportunity for all non players visitors to get in touch with this amazing game for the first time and to get some free packs to start their collection. The fact that Whispers in the Well is featuring not only an Iconic version of Hades but also cards from “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” was just perfect for this event.

This synergy between a great show and my favourite card game would have been already more than enough for me to but there was another surprise waiting. Right once the curtain fell at the end of the second act, Hades took the lead of the evening and introduced everyone to the third act of his Halloween takeover calling not other than the original voice actress of Megara on stage. Susan Egan showed up in an amazing dress and started singing “I won’t say I’m in love” together with the muses and, later, with the actress Mae Ann Jorolan, that plays Meg in the musical.

It is safe to say the crowd was ecstatic for this amazing surprise but not as much as when we all realized there was more to come. Hades, in fact, took the stage next to sing an amazing “Be Prepared” accompanied by all the Disney Lorcana players in the theatre including Baker (Lorcana Villain) who was over the moon for it. Luke Brady, Hercules in the musical, was up next singing “Gaston” from the movie Beauty and the Beast together with Bob and Charles (you will know when you watch the musical…). Phil continued the streak of Disney Villains songs by singing “Poor unfortunate souls” and Susan came back to the stage to close the show with an amazing “Mother knows best”. It is safe to say, everyone in the theatre was on their feet to cheering for THE most amazing Disney Halloween show we could have ever imagined.

Final Thoughts: A Night to Remember

The Halloween event for the musical Hercules was truly legendary, maybe Epic, well… Iconic. I surely loved the spooky setting, the story, the great music, and the amazing Disney surprise at the end together with the whimsical and electrifying presence of Disney Lorcana. Halloween actually marked the beginning of the last week before the release of Whispers in the Well and I cannot wait to see the new cards and build new decks.

Seeing the new cards on display was as electrifying as the musical itself and a great remind that Hades is not only taking over Halloween but he may also have bigger plans for the realm of Disney Lorcana. While he may have failed to take the throne of Mount Olympus, he is “kind on a schedule” as he “got plans for August” as mentioned in the flavour text on “Hades, Looking for a deal”. Will Hercules and the Illumineers be able to mess with his plans again or should we expect a new management to take over the Great Illuminary?
