How To Play 6 Nimmt

6 Nimmt, by this point, has become a modern classic in card games – mainly because of its high play limit and exciting moments of frustration and schadenfreude!

The deck is made up of 104 cards all numbered uniquely from 1 to 104. Each card also has a number of bull head icons on them. These are considered points and the person to be the first to hit sixty points loses, everyone else is a winner.

The Running of the Bulls

Setup is easy. Simply place four cards face up on the table in a column. Then deal ten cards each to the players. Each round consists of all players secretly choosing one card and then simultaneously revealing. In ascending order the cards are placed next to one of the existing cards on the table.

There is only one rule: cards must go next to the card it follows closest in chronological order. If there are no cards lower than the one you played, then you must choose a row of cards to take and place your card as the new start of that row.

If your card ever means a row reaches its sixth card then you also have to take the entire row and place your card as the new starting number.

Any cards taken cannot be used or lost and all bullheads on these will be tallied at the end of each round.

A round ends when everyone has played all of their cards. Bullheads are counted and logged, cards are shuffled and a new round begins exactly the same as the previous.

Once a player reaches sixty bullheads/points then that triggers the end of the game. At the end of that round the player with the most bullheads/points is the loser and everyone else celebrates!

Player Count: The recommended player count is between two and ten. At lower player counts 6 Nimmt becomes a really tactical game with brutal consequences whereas at higher player counts it plays a lot more fun and chaotic.

Age Range: The box recommends ages ten and above, however the basic game is easily played by younger children. I played with my eight year old nephew and he could play straight away but it was only after a few plays he started to get the strategy side.
