WISHLIST

A Feast for Odin – Tom Basketfield

I’ve wanted to add a Rosenberg game to my collection for a while and I’ve been flipping between this and Caverna. While the theme in Caverna is stronger I do prefer the longer game length and the increased options in Feast for Odin.

The expansion offers a lot more content and improves the game play, from all of my research it seems to be an auto include even when teaching to new players.

As for the Insert, have you seen the size of the box and the sheer volume of components?! When a game is long and involved the last thing you want to put on top of that is a long and fiddley setup, I’ve used inserts in a number of other larger games I own and can fully endorse them and how much they improve not only gameplay, but set up/tear down too.

Old Kings Crown – Paul Websell

A game I really can’t wait to get my hands on, and is currently very much the first item on my Christmas list this (if fingers crossed its released by then), is Old Kings Crown.

One look at the art of this game and you will know why I simply must own this game. I am choosing something purely off vibes, but can you blame me!? If this sat on your shelf, it would work as well as a piece of art as it would an amazing boardgame.

That’s not to take away from the incredible gameplay mechanics that seem apparent in the game, with stunning cards, asymmetric powers and engine building just some of the elements that makes Old Kings Crown a future Game of the Year contender.

If you don’t believe me, go watch Shut Up and Sit Downs amazing review of it on their YouTube channel, and come join me in on the hype train for this visual masterpiece.

Vantage – Josh Potter

Perhaps the game I’m most excited by on my wishlist is Vantage. Vantage takes the world of boardgames into exciting new places with its unique mechanics and open-world design. It doesn’t play like other games. Vantage isn’t about high strategy and competitive, points-based gameplay. It’s about exploration, plain and simple. The game rewards curiosity over careful planning. And as strange as that is, and as much as that won’t appeal to certain players, what it means for the world of boardgames is incredibly exciting. It strikes me as the type of game that in ten years time we’ll look back and see how influential it was to shaping the industry. Because if it works (and everything seems to indicate that it does), then it opens up so much potential for what boardgames can be. And that is why I’m so excited to get my hands on it.

Clank Catacombs – Dan Hilton

One of my closest friends is really into Star Wars. When I visited him recently he introduced me to the Star Wars deck building game. And I loved it. Even though I am not a Star Wars buff. I really enjoy deck builder games, but my experience with them is very limited. I have played (and enjoyed) Clank! In Space but sci-fi doesn’t hit as hard for me as standard fantasy. I have been looking for more games that I can bring to the table that I know my friend will enjoy, and I think Clank! Catacombs will hit that niche perfectly.

The game mixes two of my favourite game mechanics of deck building and tile placement. As much as I enjoyed Clank! In Space, I felt that replaying the game can only go so far with a static game map. But looking at Catacombs, it looks like that game fixes that issue with the map being modular. And by gosh does it just tickle all my nerdy fancies. In the game you will be crafting a deck to help you go dungeon delving, collecting treasure, and making it out alive. And that just sounds fun as heck. And knowing my friend enjoys deck building games too just makes me all the more tempted to pick this one up.

Clank! Catacombs won’t stay on my wish list for very long. I think I will need to clear some shelf space for it though!

Sanctuary – L.N Hunter

Ark Nova is one of my favourite games, but it takes absolutely aaages to play; it’s also sufficiently complex that a lot of my games group shy away from it. The game’s designer, Mathias Wigge, has created Sanctuary, a much smaller, simpler and quicker game, sharing the same theme and the same gorgeous artwork. Where Ark Nova uses cards, this game employs tiles, and it dispenses with money and enclosures as separate concepts, so there’s less juggling of resources. The result of the changes is that you can do a lot more on each turn, which speeds the game immensely. I will admit that one of the things that has resulted in this being on my wishlist is that I’m already familiar with Ark Nova, but even if I wasn’t, I’m sure I’d be leaning towards adding this beautiful game to my collection.

Liam Boyes:

Nemesis
The Nemesis games are a biiiiig box purchase meaning that the 109 pound price tag is also gonna need another shelving unit to actually purchase. But they look absolutley incredible and there is so many expansions that it scares me to buy. I have so many big box games already that I have yet to finish and love. Looking at you Gloomhaven.

Co2 second chance
I love the sound of this game. It sounds a bit like Magnate City builder which me and my missus recently picked up and thoroughly enjoyed. Building our own city and trying to profit off each other plans was satisfying.

Claim
Claim sounds really simple and really fun and honestly I’m a simple man. Give me a take away a couple of drinks and a board game with my wife and I set for the night. So the simplicity and the pretty colours on the box make this a sure pick up for me sometime soon. It doesn’t help that it’s less than 20 quid as well.

Mountains of madness
I LOVE a H.P love craft game. I’ve yet to play one I don’t absolutley love. Even the card game is exceptionally well done so this is sat on my wishlist and will be a sure thing at some point.

Damnation the gothic game
I have had my beady little eye on this one for a while now and it’s a definite pick up for me sometime soon. The premise sounds incredible and the artwork and quality looks exceptional.

Paint the roses
This one has been sat on my wishlist for a while, I love the premise and the setting of Alice In Wonderland is intriguing. A cooperative game is always a good laugh between me and the missus. Especially given my impulsive ‘that’ll do play style’ and my wife’s cold hard calculating play style makes for an interesting experience.

God’s love dinosaurs
This game is about dinosaurs. I LOVE dinosaurs. And I get to design it? Are you kidding that’s awesome!

Lairs
The premise alone makes this one awesome sounding. You design a dungeon and have to pass your rivals? That sounds so interesting and I can’t wait to try it. The artwork looks great.

Dungeon Kart
Basically Mario kart but as a board game? The reviews say its well thought out. The quality I’ve seen looks great. A sure thing sometime soon for me and the missus with an Indian meal for two and a few bevvys.

Last night on earth
Fighting Zombies. Survival Co op. What more needs to be said. Dead of Winter is an all time fav for me, me mates and the wife so this has been on there for a while because of the overlap but we’ll get there in the end.

Key master
The premise alone gets this on my wishlist. Your dead trying to escape the seventh layer of hell? Yes please and thank you. Looking forward to this one big time.

Crafting the cosmos
Can you imagine me crafting the cosmos? That sounds great. Free take away and bevvys all around. I’m assuming that’s not an option in this game but I’m gonna try get it in there anway.

Hedge mage
This sounds like easy silly fun. Make myself a little maze to stop my missus stealing my gnomes whilst trying to steal her gnomes. I’m assuming I can’t put my wallet in there too but it’s worth trying though shein might not thank me for hiding it my her.

Veiled fate
This sounds INCREDIBLE I get to make a demi god and complete quests AND hide it from others to be super secretive. Whilst voting on stuff. Ermm yes. Yes. And a little sprinkle of affirmative.

That sound game
This sounds a lot like Soundalicious which has been a hit with everyone I’ve played it with.

Land vs sea
Land Vs Sea sounds pretty damn good especially for a 2 player board game connoisseur so this had to make the list. I get to be the land? The actual land and I’m a cartographer. Take my money.
