The Wheel turns into a board game!

Miles

The world of The Wheel of Time is finally making its way to the tabletop! War of the Dragon: The Wheel of Time is heading to retail in 2027, giving fans of Robert Jordan’s epic fantasy series the chance to battle for control of the Westlands. Published by Dire Wolf, the studio behind Dune: Imperium and Clank!, the game is the first officially licensed board game adaptation of The Wheel of Time. It brings characters, locations and events from across Jordan’s 14 main novels to the tabletop. Light vs Shadow! At the heart of War of the Dragon is a huge conflict between the forces of Light and Shadow. The game combines area control, tableau building, set collection, and action selection as players work towards the final battle. You will need to think about where you deploy your forces, which characters you recruit, and when to make your biggest moves. It is designed primarily as a two-player strategy game, with one player taking the Light and the other controlling the Shadow. There is also a four-player cooperative Hero Mode, allowing teams of two to work together while keeping their cards secret from their partner. Pick your battle! There are two main ways to play. Hero Mode is designed as the more accessible option, making it a good starting point for players who might not fancy immediately diving into a massive fantasy campaign. Epic Mode turns things up considerably, introducing larger armies, character development,nt and more complex strategic decisions. Both modes cover events stretching from The Shadow Rising through to the Last Battle, with Epic Mode bringing the confrontation at Tarmon Gai’don directly to the tabletop. There is also a solo mode for anyone who wants to take on the forces of evil without needing to find another player! A huge campaign! Fans clearly weren't waiting around for the Wheel to turn again! The Kickstarter campaign launched in May 2026 and absolutely smashed its £50,000-style initial target, eventually raising $1,166,993 from 6,156 backers. That's more than 23 times the original goal! The game also features more than 100 characters, including familiar faces from both sides of the conflict. The campaign showcased characters such as Rand, Egwene, and Perrin, alongside some seriously dangerous members of the Shadow. Coming in 2027! War of the Dragon: The Wheel of Time is currently expected to reach players during 2027, with the standard Dragon Reborn Edition planned for retail. A deluxe version featuring miniatures was also offered during the crowdfunding campaign. For Wheel of Time fans, this could be one seriously exciting way to experience the story. The Wheel has turned plenty of times, but now it is landing on your gaming table!
