Starcraft Miniatures Game: Terran: Marauder Expansion Set review

Four blue-armored Terran miniatures on a textured sci-fi base, each holding a flaming weapon. The image has a dynamic and futuristic feel.

Marauder? I hardly know her!

Of all the IP’s I expected to see coming to the table top miniatures scene in 2026, Starcraft 2 was definitely not on my bingo card. That being said, this video game to table top adaptation is rocking the miniature world and I for one am here for it.

Working alongside the creatives at Blizzard, Archon Studio have done an incredible job of bringing all of the units featured in the video game to life, and have already outlined several years of content that will slowly be added to the game as it goes.

Although the initial release was slated for mid 2026, players such as myself had the opportunity to get hold of faction boxes ahead of the release at various large wargaming events held in the UK, and I’ve been so excited to get it on the table and start writing about it.

So, for this review I’ll be looking at what the Terran Marauders have to offer on the table, and I’ll be going into detail in all the areas that matter.

No zurgs allowed!

So what can you expect to find in this neat box of models? Well, all of the miniatures for the game are presented on sprues, so you’ll need an array of hobby tools to get them safely onto the table top, and some good quality glue to hold them together.

Each of the models are made from sturdy bright blue plastic in standard 28mm scale, meaning that they stand out on the table top even when they’re not painted. But, when they're assembled, the miniatures really do stand up to a high quality standard and they feel weighty when you pick them up to move.

All models come with a stunning amount of detail designed into them, and Archon have done a great job of keeping them accurate to the original source. The Terrans look formidable and battle worn, and you can tell that these marauders have seen some things during their battles.

But the detail doesn’t stop there. To add to the quality, the models are designed in dynamic poses, and come with a variety of extra pieces for each model so that you can make each one unique for the squad that they’re in. This adds a lot of variety to the models before paint is even applied.

But even if you didn’t plan on painting these miniatures straight away, the bright blue plastic makes these models instantly distinguishable on the table top, so you can tell which faction is which.

However, keep in mind that this box alone isn’t enough to play a full game with. The best way to get started with this miniatures game is to buy the starter faction packs or the two player starter box which features a good amount of models for two different factions; along with everything else needed to play a game.

Holding down the fort

Now, let’s get stuck into how these models play on the table top!

Marauders serve as an elite, high-survivability unit for your infantry line, boasting better armor stats than standard Marines. And their weapons pack a punch too, reliably stripping wounds from heavily armored Zerg monsters and shielded Protoss walkers.

Their main function is cracking through tough targets. They are designed to operate alongside Marine squads; absorbing the heavy hits and slowing the enemy, whilst the Marines output a high volume of lighter fire and pick off opposing units.

However, they don’t come without their weaknesses. Despite their heavy armor, a unit of only four models can be easily bogged down or flanked if they find themselves charged by a massive horde of Zerglings.

Therefore, to get the most out of these bulky defenders, I highly recommend focusing their fire on high-value targets to buckle your opponents aggressive attacks. Especially as firing them at basic swarms wastes their potential for taking out the heavy hitters.

Final thoughts

So there we have it, a thorough breakdown of everything that these formidable marauders have to offer on the table top. And given their potential, I highly recommend picking up a few boxes of these to ensure you have a well built front line ready and waiting.

I hope you got all the information you need to deploy these bad boys on the field and take home the wins. Just be sure to share your freshly painted models with us by using the @zatu games tag on all social media platforms!
